I’ve tried several brands of fideo and small soup pastas, but La Moderna’s Estrella (Star) pasta remains a staple in our pantry for three specific reasons: texture, cook time, and family appeal. Texture & Cooking Performance These tiny stars are surprisingly resilient. In my experience, smaller pastas often turn into a mushy "paste" if left in the broth too long. However, these hold their shape quite well, even as leftovers the next day. • Cook Time: They reach a perfect al dente in about 8–10 minutes. • Starch Level: I recommend lightly toasting them in a teaspoon of oil before adding your liquid; it brings out a nutty flavor and helps the stars stay separate. Family & Kid-Friendly Appeal If you have picky eaters or toddlers, this is a "win." The stars are small enough for a child to manage easily on a spoon, and the shape makes "soup night" a bit more engaging. We use these specifically for Sopa de Estrellas, and the 7 oz bag is the perfect ratio for about 4–6 cups of tomato-based broth. About two months ago my son had a saliva glad stone. I know, who knew it even existed. And yes, like a kidney stone. And prescription for it, soft foods, and lemon drop candy! So I went after my old standard of comfort when I was sick. However, have you tried finding star noodles/ pasta in a grocery store? Because that was like trying to find a needle in a haystack where I live. Maybe my neighborhoods too “vanilla” 😂. But I was SOOOO excited to FINALLY find that amazon is selling this cheap enough to buy. Now I can have this noodle on hand if I need to make a soup for my son if he gets sick again. No more calling around to all the stores and specialty stores hunting for a teeny bag that was way over priced! Now this is way more economical by comparison! And I don’t have to drive all around town trying to locate it. I love it. I was enjoying WAY TOO MANY bags of it when I got sick the next month. It’s just so easy to enjoy that comfort of a childlike noodle when you’re sick. It absorbs the broth, so it’s like broth flavored noodles and it’s just fun and delicious to eat! I mean, you don’t get a big bag, but you get a lot of bags in a box. So I mean, do the math and weight it out for yourself. Maybe you have it in your neighborhood cheaper then I think $.86. And if so then go for that. But for me this was a cheaper and easier solution. And one that makes everyone so happy!

This pasta brand popped up in my search for a different pasta. Super inexpensive so I figured I’d try it. For the price it was worth a try. I ordered almost one of everything they offer. It came fast and well packaged. It’s easy to use just like any pasta. They have a pretty big variety. Ingredients aren’t bad. The quality was surprisingly very good. The taste was even better! I’ve ordered this since my original order and it never disappoints. I would recommend giving them a try.

Absolutely adorable pasta and turns every bowl of soup into something fun and cozy. The little star shapes are perfect for kids my family gets excited every time I make it. It cooks evenly, stays nicely tender (not mushy), and tastes great. I also love that it’s enriched, non-GMO, and vitamin-fortified, so I feel good serving it. The pack of 20 is super convenient to keep in the pantry. If you want a cute, kid-approved pasta that makes meals a little more special, this is it. We’ll definitely keep buying!

For the price, this is a truly excellent way to be able to make stellina on the regular without paying 6$ per dry pound. 20 individual packages of 7 oz (1 1/6 cup) of cut pasta boxed together. Packaging labels and information in both Spanish and English. And since stellina is one of the ultimate comfort or illness foods, that is fabulous. Times are pretty miserable, and I’m turning to the small comforts I can provide to my family…including these. 7 oz is a useful package size to make just enough for a couple of servings. If you aren’t familiar, this is one of those pastas that it is really better to prepare in seasoned broth. The shapes are so small that they can easily get gloppy if you try to boil them in water, then add to another hot liquid. Don’t over cook and add a little olive oil / butter and Parmesan before serving and you are all set: easy peasy lemon squeezy, which, yes, you can add if you like. Best if used by Oct 2027 for product received in Feb 2026, or a 21-22 month shelf life for product received in February 2026. (And a best by for pasta is really just a suggestion as long as the product remains sealed and doesn’t look or smell or feel funny.)

My grand babies loved them. I loved making my own healthy chicken soup and giving them the stars they love.
