Oldie but Goodie
Still worth reading today, even with the new knowledge we have on Egypt. Quite a nostalgic read in many ways with the archaic language and grammar rules being rigidly enforced. Flinders Petrie opened up the way for may to follow and althoug some of his ideas are discredited, he set out the rules for archaeology and the methodical approach still used to day.

Reproduction of the original...
This edition ISBN 1-4214-643-X is a good legible reprint of the 1883 Original with 17 plates- if you include the line drawing of the three pyramids at the beginning, the 16 plans follow at the back. It would be great to see a reprint as a one to one scale reproduction of the original, with the addition of the fold out plans as they are detailed. This publication is a little smaller and does not have fold out plans.

Very interesting
Reading and it was very interesting to compare Petries investigations first hand with later commentators

Virtually useless
The paperback edition of this book is based on a computer scan and then OCR of the original. It is so full of errors and garbage as to make it wholly unreliable as a source. Also it doesn't contain any diagrams - so the text on its own is very hard to follow. I'm sending it back.

This book is good
Classic book and a valuable one for those people who want to know the precise measurements and dimensions of the Great Pyramid of Giza. it is also a valuable source book for that by far narrower group of people who are interested in the evolution of the argument about the purpose and meaning of the Great Pyramid. I'd say this book is for specialists only. It is a readable, clean copy. i was pleased by it. -- Mike A'Dair, Willits, California, USA

The Pyramids and Temples of Gizeh
For anyone with an interest in the Pryamids of Egypt, this is a "must have" reference. I have read dozens of other books on this topic, and many of them reference this seminal sourcebook.
