Working in a busy ER trauma center, I’ve shredded more than a few outfits, and have used a few popular tools along the way. The length of cuttable surface area on the blade of these shears makes others look like children’s safety scissors. I’ve had the blades on other shears wear and stop cutting reliably, or the screw gets loose so they start separating and don’t cut, but a single pair of these shears have lived many a lifetime in their place. They cut through t-shirts, jackets, denim jackets, denim jeans, multiple layers of denim jeans (zippers included), leather jackets, leather belts (haven’t tried buckles), and anything else unfortunate enough to require removal. You’d think it’s a commercial for a juicer with how you “just squeeze and that’s it!” No unfolding or having miscellaneous nonsense tools popping out (O2 tank wrench, seat belt cutter, can opener, a ruler, a surprise fork? etc.). They’re very easy to clean, even using harsh chemical wipes to clean them with no cutting performance issues. Finger holes are wide enough to use with gloves, and the shears have a very slim profile. Instead of a seat belt cutter attachment with your shears (hear me out), you could instead buy shears that cut. And they cut at nearly HALF the cost of the competition (*cough* Leatherman *cough*). They’re so good that I haven’t even had the chance to open the “just-in-case” replacement pair I bought shortly after the originals because they rock.

I have several pairs of trauma shears. This pair has become my favorite. Heavy duty and they work well. Some shears seem a bit flimsy but these are definitely solid in feel and performance. I think they are worth the extra cost.

These are the best shears I've used in eight years as an EMT and several months as a med student in the ED. They're sharp, well machined, and have tight tolerances to keep cloth and zippers from getting stuck between the blades like can happen with cheaper designs. For me, the choice was between XShears and Raptors, which cost twice the price. I chose these for a few reasons, beyond the price difference. The Simpler design is slicker, making it easier to slide into pockets and much easier to sanitize after being covered in blood or cast-plaster. The steel used in these, 420J2, is a corrosion resistant blade steel, much like the 420hc used in the Raptors. Both are legitimate blade steels and likely much better than what's used in other shears, but neither would be considered "high end" if used in a knife. In this application, both should be roughly equivalent in holding an edge, and both should do an excellent job resisting corrosion, with the XShears' 420J2 having a possible lead in that regard. After using these for three or four months, they seem just as sharp as they were on day one. I'm quite happy with the XShears. If you need a pair of trauma shears, or just excellent, heavy duty scissors, these will serve you well. If you feel you need a pair that can open oxygen tanks, cut seatbelts, and have multiple uses, I still think these have a lead over the competition, without needing extra bells and whistles (the back side can pinch the O2 valve to open it, and if you can't cut seatbelts with these in your hands, the deficiency is not in the tool).

As of writing this review, I have had the same pair of x-shears for two years. TWO YEARS. Anyone in EMS know that two years is a lot of miles to put on one pair of trauma sheers, but the X-Shears have really stood up. I work full time, 24 hour shifts, and an average of 10 shifts a month. That’s 240 shifts (without overtime shifts factored in) that I’ve been using these sheers, so I think I can finally write a genuine review. I’ve cut through dozens of pairs of pants, dozens of shirts, hundreds of EKG sticker packages, and thanks to living in Alaska, overalls, thick winter coats, and the occasional motorcycle jacket. To this day, my X-sheers remain almost as sharp as the day I got them, and as sturdy as a rock. Prior to purchasing these sheers, I had the obligatory leatherman raptors. Within just a few months of using the raptors, the axis screw would constantly walk out and I’d have to retighten it, the blades became dull, and the steel began to rust. Not to mention, I hardly ever used any of the extra “features” that I had paid so handsomely for. If you’re looking to purchase a pair of trauma sheers and are stuck between these and the raptors, do yourself the favor and purchase these. They’re cheaper, more comfortable, more streamlined, better built, sharper, and incredibly durable. They’re a no-nonsense, no gimmicks work-horse that will hold up to anything. Having used both sheers, I can confidently say that the X-Shears are far more conducive and comfortable in the environment of EMS, and will literally last you years (as long as an ER nurse or flight team doesn’t steal them). I have owned these shears now for about three months and I can say without a doubt they are the best thing I have bought myself for work in the twelve years I've been working in EMS. I work in a fairly busy urban area and run a lot of calls during my 60ish hour work weeks. There has not been a single thing so far these shears cannot cut through without ease. Clothing is like cutting through paper, tough leather boots don't stand a chance, and makes fairly short work of even bunker gear (don't worry it was a scrap during a training exercise! :P) I was skeptical because I have used other co-workers raptors, and I'll be honest I hate them. I thought it was a HUGE waste of money, and I cannot stand the fold to close design. My partner also thought they were a waste of money, her first words to me were "Why did you buy shears when work hands them out like candy?" The difference is immeasurable, if you've only used the cheapos from your service or the handouts during EMS week then you will be in for a huge surprise. Build quality is amazing, the first thing people are in awe of is the weight and heft. They just feel great in the hand, they don't feel like they're going to break when you cut through something tough, and the open and close is just tight enough to feel great. As another review mentioned you really feel none of the added resistance closing them because the blades just slide through things like a hot knife through butter. If I could improve on this design it would be to add a window punch, I do have to get a separate window punch and carry that on me in case we're beating fire to the scene and need one. I would also like to see them offered in more colors. Other than those two suggestions I can't think of a single thing to improve these shears.

I really love these shears. There are a lot of cheap and flimsy trauma shears out there - but these are NOT in that category. They are a step above the cheap stuff in terms of size. They fit my hand well. They're imminently safe as are most trauma shears, without being flimsy. Extremely easy to deploy from a proper sheath. They work very well with whatever reasonable fabric or material I need to cut. They look as good and solid as they are.

Light weight yet heavy duty. Cut through 5 inch supply line like butter and held its edge. Only wish it had a built in O2 wrench, which is why it got 4 stars. But for 30 bucks you cant go wrong.

Bought these for my medic wife. She previously used crappy shears and tossed them out when dull. They never cut very well. She didn't imagine shears could be this much better. She loves these things. Six months in and still cutting great for her. A little stiff at first but gave gotten better with time. Other medic and fire see her use these things and want them. Hoping these don't need to be replaced for a while, but would absolutely buy her another pair of these. 2 year update: still working well. The bottom cutting edge is pretty beaten up from use and could use sharpening. Wife says they still cut well. One issue is the lack of a pocket sheath. She carries them in her pants pocket with the strap for shears. The tip wears a hole on her pocket over time. She doesn't like the holster - too bulky and in her way. She likes the shears in her pocket. She would like to have a thin Kydex pocket sheath that would protect her pants and not add a lot of bulk. The would need to be made in a way that they would stay in the pocket. I may get some Kydex and give it a try. Still great shears. Could use an improved method of pocket carrying.

These look very high quality and well made - just be aware that the large handle loop is about half an inch longer than normal trauma shears and as a result I cannot fit them into any standard shear holster for scuba diving. I suppose I could see something custom using webbing and velcro but that is alot of faff...so I am going to return these and order the 6" mini xshears directly from the manufacturer. I realize this is a very niche use case and that most people are probably buying these for medical use. They look like excellent shears fwiw.

Hätte nie gedacht mich so über eine Schere zu freuen! Eigentlich gekauft als Safety Schere für Spiele mit Seilen, Aber Man freut sich jetzt auch so jedes mal drauf wenn es irgendwas anderes zu schneiden gibt.

Absolutely love these. I work in an operating theatre and these shears are perfect, particulalry in the Orthopedics end. They cut like a hot knife through butter. I even have to keep my eye on them to ensure the surgeons dont sneak them away!! A little on the expensive side but they are definately better than raptors as you dont have to faff about opening them etc and no pointy bits! Shape wise they're ideal too particularly when removing thick bandages. I have been using these shears for two years now and they are still as good as when I first purchased them so all in all good value for money.

Farbe geil, Material geil, Anwendung geil. Kein Schnickschnack, pure Funktion. Sauscharf und ultra stark, damit kann man auch dünnes Blech zerschneiden. Motorradbekleidung, dicke Schnüre aber auch mal ein Pflaster fein zurechtschneiden ist gar kein Problem. Auch im Garten sehr nützlich um dünnere Äste abzulängen. Super Sache, würde ich mir wieder kaufen. Beschichtung hält auch lange.
