These Little Butter Ribbons Changed My Life
I don't use much butter because it's what, 100% FAT? But I LOVE BUTTER. This little gadget lets you control the amount of butter where you can still get a taste without the awkwardness of trying to cut little bitty pieces off the stick. I use the type of butter that is in the longer, skinny sticks, so had no problem loading the gadget. First try with cold butter, it was very difficult to turn and I thought I had made a mistake. Next day, it wasn't as hard....not sure why, but maybe it just needed to "settle in" or something. The third day, I ran hot water over the outside of the square portion the butter is in just to un-stick the butter from the walls of the dispenser. It worked just great, even with the butter being cold. You do have to "back off" with the screw part to keep more butter from oozing out the opening. Easy. Then one day, I let the butter sit out an hour or so before dinner and it still worked wonderfully. Even easier. The muffin or bread or whatever you are having does NOT have to be warm. Just be ready to detach the ribbon of butter with your table knife, fork, or even your finger. The butter will break away from the dispenser if you just pinch & pull the ribbon with your fingers. Your fingers are only on the piece you took out, so the butter inside is still clean. To wash it after running out of butter, I simply used HOT water out of the tap with liquid dish soap. The butter came right off with the hot water and soap. It's dishwasher safe, so if I can get it clean in the sink, your dishwasher can do as good or better at cleaning the gadget. Crazy Russian Hacker's Butter Gadgets Put to the Test on YouTube [...] is how I learned there was such a thing. He has the red top kind, but I found too many bad reviews on that one. This all-white one is a dream.

Best thing happen to butter
I've been using the Butter Mill for a while now and, honestly, it's been a game-changer in my kitchen. It's one of those tools you didn't know you needed until you have it. Before I had the Butter Mill, spreading cold, hard butter on bread was always a bit of a struggle. With this tool, that problem is a thing of the past. It grates the butter into thin, easy-to-spread ribbons even when the butter is straight from the fridge. It's so effortless that it almost feels like magic! The Butter Mill is straightforward to use and clean, which adds to its appeal. It's certainly become a must-have in my kitchen. If I had to find a drawback, it would be that you need to make sure you screw the top on securely. If it's not, the butter might not grate properly. In conclusion, the Butter Mill is an excellent tool. It has made the simple act of buttering bread so much easier. It's a must-have for anyone who enjoys butter on their bread, toast, or pastries. Despite the minor issue with the top, I'm still giving it a full five stars for its practicality and efficiency.

it may break with hard butter
Works ok. Feels like it will break when at fridge temp. It does work when running under hot water first like it says but I was really looking for something that would shave the butter when cold. On a good note it is completely sealed so it can be left on the counter and won't leak

I thought this would be easier to use -WRONG - this is in the garbage now I wasted a stick of butter There is nothing but a screw pushing the butter - I twisted and twisted and nothing came out I am so sorry I bought this product money thrown away

Difficult to turn handle with COLD butter. Soft butter ok.
Works well with ROOM TEMPERATURE butter. However, COLD butter makes turning of the handle hard on the hand which makes it difficult to dispense.

Have had this product for quite some time now and it is WONDERFUL!!
The gift that keeps on giving!! Have had this product for quite some time now and it is WONDERFUL!!! UPDATE 1/14/2018: Still have this product. Pretty much daily use. It was in storage for about 2 years during a "transitional period" :) Few tips for those looking to buy one. I still think this product is better than sliced bread! Although from daily use and cleaning in the dishwasher it has begun to lose the threads on the top, it still latches down enough to work effectively. At $14 and some change, it's been a great tool! Here's the trick to get it to break off the ribbon...back it off. If you release the pressure behind the piston it'll come off. Yes, there is some butter that backs up behind the piston, but if you are frugal and can't stand to lose maybe 1/2 a teaspoon of butter it is recoverable with little effort. As far as some of the other reviews I have read about this product, the number one complaint is that they have to "trim the stick" to get the butter to fit. So, Land-O-Lakes makes 1/2 sticks, or their European style butter, fit perfectly! All in all this is a wonderful product at a good price. I've owned two, this one and one I bought about two years prior to it. I'd say for a total of 4.5 years using daily, I don't mind that I have to buy a new one. So far, I've spend a grand total of $25.00 on two of these and still I'll say totally worth it!

Ummm... WOW!!!! GREAT PRODUCT! It's so great I ordered a second one!
Who ever invented this is a genius! I hate using sticks of butter because they are so hard coming out of the fridge. With the butter mill it sends out a very thin ribbon of butter that's soooooooo much easier to spread. No more leaving butter out to soften or struggling to scrape thin slivers off a rock hard stick of butter. This thing works great! It also acts as a case for your butter, and with the cap on it keeps the air out too. IT ALSO WORKS AMAZINGLY WELL WITH BLOCKS OF CREAM CHEESE!!!! USER TIP: On the West Coast of the USA our butter sticks are shorter and fatter than the rest of the world, so you will have to cut the side off of your butter to make it fit in the mill. But this is no big deal, its easy to do, and just place the portion you cuff off back inside the mill so it won't be wasted at all. USER TIP: cranking down the handle creates a little pressure inside the case that may cause it to send a little extra butter out after you stop twisting it. It's no big deal, but to stop the flow of butter precisely at a specific amount, just turn the crank a very small amount in the opposite direction as soon as you want it to stop sending out butter. This relieves the small amount of pressure on the butter in the chamber and stops the flow of butter exactly when you want it to stop.

Well, I wanted to love this....
Well, I wanted to love this.... If your butter is the exactly right temperature, you can produce thin butter ribbons that melt very nicely on your toast! If it is cold from the refrigerator - not so much. If it is warm-ish/room temperature - not so much. When I try to use it from the refrigerator, it refuses to dispense the butter, but it does squish up into the area behind the pusher. Same if it is too soft. It just makes a mess in the area up close to the handle. When it does either of these things, it is very hard to clean. I have resorted to getting slices from the paper-wrapped stick of butter. I wish I was within the return window.
