Wouldn't this cause the generator to run hot and even overheat?

Not in the case of my Honda 2200i. The tent offers large vents that allow air to flow through and around the inverter/generator. The vents also allow for it to be raining and still keeps the unit cool. No problem with overheating.

My generator is 20" deep front to back, 13" wide and 20" tall. Will it fit?

Yes I think your generator will fit the only part that might be close is the top of your generator being 20 inches tall. I have a Honda 22 that fits perfectly.
