Yes, you can make it left or right sided. When you put it together, you determine which way the seat faces which is what determines whether it is left or right sided.

What is the clearance measurement under bench? I have a tall tub and I want to be sure this is tall enough.

I measured as best I could with legs in highest position. The clearance below the lowest point (the sliders on the seat that connect it to the frame sit lowest) is about 19 1/2. I'd say you probably want the tub height to be below 19"...maybe 19 1/4. Hope that helps!

how does one get into bathtub from seated position.

The part that has the seat and back is the part that hangs over the bathtub. You sit on the seat and slide over into the tub. You have to swing your legs into the tub or lift the patient's legs into the tub. When the seat slides to the other side it has a clip that holds it in that position until the clip is released to slide back out of the tub (the seat slides side to side).

What is the length that it slides?

Judy, I measured mine. The seat, which is 19 inches wide, slides about 15 inches in either direction. The whole unit is about 36-38 inches wide, including the handles on either end.
