Very good purchase
I bought the lock to lock up our liquor cabinet now that we have teenagers. I did not want a key lock, as we would either get lazy and leave key accessible, lose it, or the kids would find it anyway. Combo lock is much better. This lock is well made, quite large, works great. Easy to install - just install with two way screws first, and then substitute the one way screws once you've got it in place. (Switch out the screws one at a time, replacing a two way screw with a one way screw, until all six are replaced.)Three things to note. First, the prior reviews that cite the easy ability to accidentally reset the combination as a defect are no longer valid. The company fixed this issue. There is now no way to accidentally trigger the reset function.Second, the lock only works to secure a moving part (e.g. a door) that is being latched to a fixed part (e.g., a frame or a gate post). I learned this the hard way, as I bought the lock to lock a liquor cabinet that has two doors that meet in the center and swing out, and I tried to attach the bolt side of the lock to one of the doors and the other side to the other door. Although everything was lined up properly, the lock would not hold when we opened the two doors - the lateral movement of the doors swinging would cause the lock bolt to slide out of the other side of the lock. This was easily remedied, however, by installing a simple slide bolt (available from any hardware store for $3) on the inside of one of the cabinet doors, which affixes the cabinet door to the cabinet frame. By doing this, I made one of the cabinet doors "fixed", and the other movable, and the combination lock works perfectly. It adds an extra step to the opening and closing process (you have to open the combination lock, open one of the doors and then reach inside to undo the slide bolt before you can open the second door; vice versa closing it up), but it's nothing.Third, the lock looks great in terms of its design and the chrome, but it is big. It's a little "much" for using on a liquor cabinet, but for us that's fine. For outdoor use, etc., it would be great.

Good combination gate lock
This device adds a combination lock to a simple slide-bolt, thus providing some extra security for ordinary gates. Several of these chromed versions have been on duty in our ocean-front community for several years, so I'd say they hold up OK, and will keep out those who aren't strongly bent on getting in. I don't know if the black version would have the same longevity in a marine environment, but elsewhere black is probably fine too. Couple of things though. The one I received in May-June 2014 still has the downside of being able to change the combo by sliding the bolt all the way away from the locked position, though another reviewer claimed that the manufacturer had addressed this issue. I'd consider putting a torx screw (or the like) into the gate adjacent to the non-locking end of the bolt in order to lessen this possibility. Too, keep in mind that, with a combination to diddle, mounting this lock in the obvious way will mean it's only usable from one side. No reaching over or through the gate to open it, since you have to be able to read the combination. If this is an issue, you'll need to mount it horizontally in a notch in your gate so it can be operated from either side. Loses one star for being a little too easy to reset the combination -- maybe more recent versions don't have this problem.

Great lock! Exactly what I was looking for
This lock is exactly what I was looking for. I needed to lock a particular room of my house due to having a child with special needs, yet needed the others to access it without having to worry about losing or having keys. This is perfect. The lock is solid and heavy. And it's not a small lock by any means, but it definitely does the job. Initially, I thought it might be too "big and heavy" for the door as the internal door I was installing it on is a hollow core door. I ended up using some specialized anchor screws for the two screws farthest away from the door edge. The other two caught the solid edge of the door just fine. Although I appreciate the security screws included and think they are a nice offer. I decided NOT to use those as I'd like to be able to remove this lock if need be. So offering the security screws as well as a normal set would be a nice touch. I have had no issue with setting the combination or with it "unintentionally" getting reset as others have noted (perhaps due to the changes to the bolt as mentioned). This is a great option for anyone who needs a way to lock a door and not be concerned with keys or independent locking mechanisms.

Works just like you think it does
If you look at this and think "I wonder if it works like I think it does" the answer is yes. It's great. I's easy to set a combination and is solid. I have it on the barn door to my shed. It's been on for 2 months and shows now signs of corrosion or rust. After 2 months the numbers are as easy to turn as the day I got them.My only regret is that I got the polished one instead of the black one. The way the sun hits my shed, it's difficult sometimes to see the numbers because of the glare. Obviously this isn't the fault of the product, but it's worth considering if you think you're going to put this in a place that gets a lot of sun

Needs better tamper proof screws
I bought re usable tamper proof screws seperately. The flat head ones it comes with are useless.

Sturdy, Easy Installation.
The media could not be loaded. Very Sturdy!! Easy to install! Just wish the bolt went further into the retainer on the other door. If I leave it in the lock reset mode with the screw loosened, it works like I think it should. I must be doing something wrong.
