Good heft for flicking along the fold, tapered end to start the rip, beveled ripping edges, works precisely as it should. This is not a slicer, it is a ripper. Don't expect to just draw it along the fold like a razor. You flick it and it rips. There is a technique to it to keep the head buried in the envelope and flick flick flick the opener along the top fold. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be opening letters like your parents did.

this is a useful, attractive item. i bought one for me & one for a gift.

Firstly, most folks seem to think letter openers are supposed to be sharp life a knife, this is incorrect. Letter openers don't cut, the cleanly rip & tear the top if you swiftly flick the tool up through the envelope. So the negative reviews claiming this is too dull are missing the point, it is plenty sharp enough to tear through envelopes. This tool however is definitely more flexible than I'd like, I easily bent it with my fingers, but then bent it back. This is a nice upgrade, however I was hoping for more durability.

I compared quite a few letter openers before I chose this one and I’m glad I did. I made the right choice. The price was excellent and I’m very happy with the letter opener. It’s not sharp enough to cut you, but it’s perfectly beveled on both sides to run cleanly through an envelope.

Does what it needs.

Looks great but it is very dull and doesn’t do a great job as an actual letter opener, which is its primary job.

Arrived quickly. Works great opening paper letters and thin plastic wrap. Sleek and thin, feels good in the hand. Not bad for how much it costs.
