Before purchasing this, I had asked if anyone used it indoors for pet birds. I received positive feedback that it could work and it does! It hangs on the wall and has two settings, low and high. I am using low and have it positioned behind the bird cage for my budgies. It is large enough to heat the cage, but one side that is away from the heater is still cooler in case they get too hot. It uses radiant heat, so you won't feel a difference in the air. If you hold your hand in front of it for a while, you will feel the warmth. The back gets warm to the touch but it is supposed to not be a fire hazard at all and I believe that to be true. The front gets pretty hot to the touch, so this must be outside the cage and away from where the birds will land. It also comes with feet, which we use at night. We put the birds in the bathroom so it is dark and quiet, and also a warmer room. The heater stands on its feet on the counter. I am so glad I bought this heater, as my birds were cold all day before. You could definitely use this under a desk as a leg warmer, but it will not warm a room, only things that are within a couple feet of it.

Great product. Installed earlier today and tried it out tonight for the first time. It will not heat the whole coop but I mounted it on the wall behind the roost and it radiates heat out to warm the chickens in front of it. Puts out a lot of radiant heat and will definitely make a big difference on nights like tonight when it's supposed to be 25 degrees. Seems very safe. Even on high heat the back stays cool and if you touch it it won't burn you however if you hold your hand on it it does seem very hot. Also bought the thermo cube and it worked perfectly. Turned on at 35 degrees. Is only wide enough for two or three chickens so I'm going to have to get another one to cover the whole wall. You won't go wrong with this product but keep in mind as everyone else said it's not a heater that warms the whole coop it just radiates Heat for animals that are in front of it. Very pleased with this product.

This has/is performing better than I hoped. We call this our chicken’s flat screen TV, since it is about the size of a 14” flat screen TV. First off, the switch has three total settings. [ 1 - off - 2] The manf. says 1 = 130° and 2 = 180°. I can tell you from experience that if these numbers are true, it is the coils or whatever heats up on the inside, not the surface of the unit. I can hold my hand 1-2” away from the surface when it’s on the hotter setting and be nice and warm. Because it’s radiant heat, you save energy over heating the air. We started this heater in our brooder box with our chicks and since migrated it with them to their coop. At first, when they were little, they were scared of such a large, black, wall in their box, but upon realizing they were cozy near it, they quickly got over that. As they have grown they are now as tall as it is and love it just as much. The legs attach with friction alone. I drilled holes in the feet and attached it to a board via screws so it doesn’t fall over. On that point though, I will say that one night, it did fall over in the brooder box. I woke to find that not only were all the chicks sitting on it (on the back) because it warm, it also hadn’t caused a single burn or scorch mark to the pine shavings it laid on all night. No, there is not one of those alarms or auto-off features if it falls over. But based on that experience (barring any faulty electrical issue) I can say with confidence that the fire risk with this unit is quite minimal. Anyways, with it currently on the low setting and in the corner of the coop, it keeps our insulated coop around a constant 50° for the winter (40° during the days, 20° or less at night). We’ll turn it off as the nights warm up come spring time. But I have no doubt that this will be a staple for our chickens for the years to come. And if it breaks or fails at any point, $45ish is an easy price to pay to fend off frostbite when the temps dip below freezing. This heater has out performed my expectation and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a chicken (or even other small animal) heater.

I am a new chicken mom who needed to figure out how to get my 6 week old chicks out of my house and into their coop before the weather warmed up. They are poop machines and needed to be in a bigger space. I have to say I was nervous about this heater because of the reviewer who posted pictures of her burned up unit and description of her dead chickens. It took me a week but I decided to buy it. I’m so pleased with this heater. I’ve had it running for 2 weeks, on both low and high, and it works beautifully! It is quite hot to the touch; however that hasn’t stopped my chicks from roosting on it and sitting fairly close to it. I’ve used it down to 28 degrees and the chicks have been fine. I have it hanging on the coop wall next to their roost. I don’t have it near any pine shavings so I can’t speak to its safety regarding that. I also like that the cord is wrapped in a metal spring like thing that is suppose to keep the chicks from pecking the cord and damaging it. The only problem I’ve had is that the chicks turned the unit off once by stepping on the on/off switch. Problem solved by affixing it to the coop wall away from chicken feet.

Product description said "Will NOT raise ambien air temperature" but it definitely kept the girls more comfortable. So much so, that we bought 2. I will use only a few times a year when Temps are below 15°. SAFER THAN LIGHTS! DO NOT USE REPTILE BULBS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! My photo is a temporary set up, mounted to a board so I can take in & out. I will eventually mount them on the back wall under the poop board. I may only mount 1 & mount the other on a smaller board to move in or out as needed... or let my cat use it when the chicks aren't. Either way, they are great for my purposes. Good purchase so far. Probably last me a long time, as little as we need to use them? TN

Heed the warnings from other purchasers. I believe the way the vendor laid out their page was deliberately done to mislead the consumer. I had purchased a Cozy Coop heater in the past. It was a large squar-ish item, solidly built (it is shown in one of the displayed pics). I clicked the buy again button & got a tiny 8×19 panel, by Cozy Chickens, that is cheaply made & looks like a children's toy. Whether or not they share the same parent company is irrelevant. The quality is not there (cheap unfinished, open faced, plastic on the back), the size is tiny (8 inches tall), small (4 inch) unstable L brackets for legs, no safety shut off, & a warning on the box saying it leaches DEHP, a cancer causing agent. The product sent would be incapable of doing what a chicken owner would expect for a coop. My girls safety is to important to me. Definitely going back. If you're looking for quality, safety, & longevity, may I suggest a Sweeter Heater. But as chicken people you probably already know of them.

I tested the first one I received for a week in the house and noticed it occasionally made a "popping" sound similar to the sound the lid of a mason jar makes when it's cooling down after removing it from the canner- I contacted Cozy Coop and they emailed a shipping label and RMA authorization for the heater and sent a replacement, which I installed in an A-frame tractor coop that is being kept in a Shelterlogic 10x10 shed-in-a-box for the winter. It works great- I'm using a heat mat temperature controller set at 41 degrees and it's kept the coop warm enough while using the 100W setting, with outside temperatures reaching the low teens. I'm sure there will be no problem maintaining 39-41 degrees if there is a sub-zero cold spell in February. The operating cost is probably cheaper than the 60W ceramic coated bulb I was using before, since it doesn't run constantly, and I replaced the 60W with a 7.5W night light bulb. The hens sleep better without the constant bright light and they aren't agitated while waiting for me to drop the ramp. Almost every morning when I check the video feed to see when they're ready to go out, I notice they are purring contentedly.

I came to Amazon looking for a replacement heat lamp bulb but came across this unit and thought it sounded ideal for my application, which is not chickens but my 2 outdoor cats. I turn on the heat for them when outdoor temps are -12C or more. They have a custom house built under the house sidestep with a rubber sponge mat for a curtain, an interior heat lamp fixture, plus plywood walls & floor are insulated with styrofoam insulation. It was a dog house for a very large dog no longer here, cats have taken it over. I was after my husband for quite a while to renovate it and make it smaller so the area to heat was reduced and it would be warmer for cats, but he opted to let the hairy buggers into the house when it was cold instead. Recently the bulb burnt out, which brought me to Amazon looking for another one. I came across this and it sounded safer, more efficient and perfectly suited to my cat house. I love that it gives off heat but won't burn! I have in the past had cats with a big circular burn on their back when it was -30 or more and they got way too close to the heat lamp by piling on top of each other - had to buy a guard for it so that didn't happen again! Not an issue with this unit. I definitely notice on my electric bill when I plug in the heat lamp. I am certain this chicken coop heater must be more efficient and won't use the same amount of power. What would really be fantastic now is a solar panel to power it, although only useful probably 30% of the winter time with our harsh climate & lack of sun it would still be a reduction in costs to run it. I also love that the plugin cord is wrapped in wire because one of the cats has a penchant for chewing on cords, can't tell you how many phone charger ends the little bugger has wrecked chewing when he was allowed in the house. I installed this quite easily, the worst part was lining up the screws level to hang it on the wall. Before installation I did plug it in and turn it on both settings to ensure it worked. It has the power icon embedded in one corner and that is your indicator it is on & working since it glows somewhat when heated. It gives off great radiant heat, I don't know how since there is no fan to disperse it but when I opened the front curtain to check it the next day, cats were laying more than a foot away and sleeping comfortably - you can't even see them in the photo. It was perfectly toasty in there, I estimate dimensions of the area heated is in the neighborhood of 4x5x4 ft. It was -10C outside at the time and I had the heater on high. I expected to find them laying against it, especially the old cat with arthritis. With the heat lamp, they'd have been huddled directly underneath it. They love this coop heater! I was unsure it was going to work because when it arrived part of it had punctured the box, as seen in photo. It was packaged inside an Amazon box while in transit at least. Turns out it was just one of the legs of the unit which I wasn't using anyway. I have this plugged in to a smart plug which is managed by Alexa, the entire setup is just 'cat's meow' ha! This was a smart replacement, after a week I'm quite happy with it and so are my cats. I also think it is a safer alternative to heat lamps. Now I want to see if I can set a timer or actions so it starts on its own based on temperature outdoors rather than time of day. Now that would be smart, genius in fact! This product has worked great for my needs. I built an insulated doghouse for my French bulldog for the winter. The interior of the doghouse is around 2.5 ft by 3.5 feet and with the heater mounted on the inside wall it stays warm 24/7. I took the temperature when it was -10°C outside and it was 15°C inside the doghouse. I keep it turned on day and night and this is the second winter that it's held up fine. Very pleased. Not sure I would use it for a bigger space or one with wide open gaps as it doesn't project much heat, the pad itself heats up to a very warm temperature and this is enough to heat the small doghouse.

Not super warm but i use it for 2 chickens in a 4x3 chicken house with a tiny warmer and the door opened at day time. If the warmer doesn’t work when it’s really cold, this seems to be working great in -30celcius temps. One of the chickens sleeps next to it at night. It is easy to install. Looks like a plasma tv for my chickens :) poop fell on it and didnt cause any problem, it dries and is easy to brush off. Would recommend, no problem with it for now.

I received it & the package was a little beat up (opened & retaped) so I was worried but it was all there and when I plugged it in it seemed to work well. Unfortunately I don’t need it right now with a heat wave but the price fluctuated so much I didn’t want to wait till winter. Will hang nicely in my coop and cord is strung they a metal spiral for protection, so it can’t be chewed or pecked at. It does get hot but if hung it’ll radiate heat nicely.

We chose this heater because the younger chickens were separated from the older ones by a mesh wall and we wanted to give them more heat without adding too much to the electrical draw on the circuit. This was a great addition. They love to cuddle up to it on windy or cold days and it takes the edge off the crisp air. Just holding your hand in front of it 12-16” you can feel it warm up. It I had been great!
