I consider a short file to be an essential addition to any BOB, where you intend to survive for more than a few days. If you have knives or any other metal tools in your bag that you need to stay sharp, you should carry a file like this with you. A plain file is the fastest and most reliable way to sharpen/repair blades of all sizes and shapes (in less than ideal conditions). Combine this 6" file with a small whetstone and your portable sharpening needs are met. Because I am storing the file in a tightly packed bag, I had to make a sheath of sorts for it. As you can see in my picture, it doesn't look pretty, but it gets the job done. The "sheath" is a strip of nylon canvas (8" x 1.5") folded over the file, then duct tape is folded/rolled over the nylon canvas. The nylon layer prevents the duct tape from sticking to the file, and gives it some rigidity. Easy and fast to make, and now the file won't be poking holes in my bag. Nice!

I bought a used reel mower and needed something to sharpen it. Looking online for methods to sharpen a reel mower, I came across one that suggested using a file like this one. Having already tried a messier and less efficient method, I decided to try a file the nest time. The next time has come and gone and this file did an excellent job, leaving the blades much sharper and with no mess to clean up afterward. Plus, i kind of like the way it sounds as I am using it.

Small rasp gets into those spots where a full size just won't go. Sharpens my hand tools quick. Great addition to a small toolbox.

I used this file to get my airsoft gun magazines down so that they would fit into the magwell, it did what it needed to but wasnt pleasant to use, and i had to wash it under the sink to get tiny bits of plastic out of the grooves

Bought this to touch up my reel mower blade. Worked great. Cut with little effort.

The old file that I had (at least 50 years old)that was given to me from my dad finally won’t file anymore purchased this 6 inch file which is like the old one only the new works way better,I used it 5 minutes after I received it

It sharpened my axe and hatchet. Kinda small but it works.
