I've been making kombucha at home for a while now. The first scoby I ordered from this lasted a long time ( a year or so). I only had to replace it with this one because I was moving and it was hard for me to transport it at the time. I've had great results with each brew so far, and I haven't had any issues with quality. Great value for money and easy to take care of.

Good SCOBY I have been making kombucha for 15 years and my original SCOBY recently started misbehaving for some reason, so I purchased another (more expensive) brand to start another batch. The SCOBY from that other brand never formed on top. It was almost like it was dissolving--it was super weird. I threw that batch out. I ordered this one, and now my kombucha is growing strong once again!

Yes it is a kombucha scoby and yes it worked to make kombucha. Regardless, there were no instructions included with the item. Instead there is a QR code. There was also a link to a webpage. However, those instructions are specifically for their kit which includes tea, etc. The instructions were not friendly for someone who purchased their scoby only, which they are selling here. I had to read and re-read the instructions and modify it to my own use case, which was making my own tea and measuring and mixing in my own sugar. This part wasted a lot of my time and really irritated me. If you are going to sell just a scoby, why not include simple step by step instructions on how to use the scoby instead of things like "add the included pouch containing the tea to the hot water". Most of the directions did not apply and some were simply wrong or incorrect. For example: "step 10: Cover the jar with the cotton cloth and seal with the rubber band. Set the plastic jar lid aside. It is not needed for the brewing process" I have read and re-read the instructions and there is no previous mention of a plastic jar and one is definitely not included with the scoby. Again, step 2: "Pour entire contents of the tea blend pouch (3 tbsp) into the cotton tea bag and add to pot." There is no tea pouch included with a scoby only so these directions do not apply to the item being sold and do not clearly say how much to brew or what kind. It does go on later, in an informational section to explain what kinds of tea and sugar to use but that is not really step by step directions that are directed towards customers who buy some kind of complete kit. Yes, there are generic instructions all over the internet about how to use an existing scoby for making kombucha however they all vary to some degree and I didn't want to make a mistake. For the price they are charging for this scoby, they could have included or offered easily accessible clear and accurate instructions for how to use just the scoby to make kombucha. They chose not to for some reason.

Legit culture. Lasts 5-6 max per specifications. Can get extremely good growth if dialed in. Real deal product.

Received a very strong starter culture. It works brilliant and the instructions were easy to follow. I did a 2nd fermentation in the bottle with homemade passion fruit syrup and the taste is outstanding. Very nice culture, not too tangy either.
