Assuming that the fixture is metal, most likely it would work. I have used on wood, and candlesticks made of metal

Can I use this on doorknobs or will it rub off?

I think it will rub off?? It’s best used for touch ups on frames, etc….

does this work on plastics and what type?

I've used it on PLA & PETG 3D prints. A little goes a long way. Dry times vary with conditions.
