Get the HIGH SPEED Internet you are paying for! Dazzling Wi-Fi - as fast as your hard-wired Ethernet connections!
I began writing a huge and complex review of this fine cable modem, only to realize why people read reviews is to assist in making a purchase decision. I bought this with the goal of getting the fastest possible Wi-Fi speeds on my Comcast Blast Pro! fiber optic Internet service. With this device, I am averaging about 180 Megabits per second (multiply times 0.125 to get MegaBYTES per second) which is a mighty jump over the past Arris modem I replaced which was yielding 75 Mbps. Now, my laptop is as fast on Wi-Fi as all my high-end gaming PCs which are connected via Gigabyte Ethernet cards and hard wires to this new cable modem. Yup - a wireless device performing as fast as the hard-wired devices on the same network. Tips regarding setup: 1-Read the HFC MAC address to your ISP when adding this to your account. DO NOT read them the WAN MAC! Giving the WAN MAC to your ISP will blind them to your device and setup will fail. The HFC Mac address is on the label glued to your modem and on the setup instruction sheet. Tell your ISP this device is relatively 'new' and it may need to be 're-provisioned' a second time to make sure that your ISP succeeds in handing this unit two different dynamic IP protocol addresses. The first (and the one that works right from jump) is the new IPv6 Protocol. The one that was a bit of an issue is the older IPv4 protocol. Your network equipment needs BOTH of these to be assigned to your new cable modem or your Internet won't work properly. Arris 24/7 Tech Support advised me to ask the ISP to rebroadcast the setup signal, and that worked just fine. ALLOW TIME for your device to be recognized on the ISP system and for the firmware to automatically update (nothing you need to do but give it a couple hours). If your unit is not functioning properly 2 hours after ISP sends setup signal, call your ISP back and ask them to re-transmit the setup codes a second time, then allow 2 more hours for it to "be recognized" across the ISP system. Comcast lists this as a "Certified and Approved" device - that's very important - call your ISP pre-purchase and ask if the model you are thinking of will work. This unit has 32 download channels as opposed to many on the market with far fewer. More channels in Docsis 3.0 means faster Internet! AC1750 means both radio frequencies are combined at the same time for max Wi-Fi speed of 1750 Mbps. I won't do a tutorial on MegaBITS per second versus MegaBYTES per second - but the numbers you see on cable modem speeds need to be multiplied by 0.125 to give the MegaBYTES per second. My old Arris cable modem did a great job and was giving 180 Mbps on hard wired but only 75 on Wi-Fi. This new cable modem jumped my Wi-Fi devices up to 180 and I'm thrilled just for that alone. Also when backing up my laptop wirelessly, the backup now completes in just minutes as opposed to several hours when backing up to a Network Attached Storage device (Synology Diskstation). In a nutshell, I took the time to write this in hopes of assuring people who are on the fence that the initial pain of getting the unit activated is far offset by the GREAT IMPROVEMENT I encountered, most especially in Wi-Fi. I recently purchased an ASUS GL753VE gaming laptop from Costco, and I wanted my Wi-Fi to match the performance of my laptop. Done!

Exceptional Product and Value
This duel band WiFi cable box works great with more speed available then I subscribe for. Set up is fairly easy, just call your ISP provider to have them activate it and that is it. I noticed that I could only see the 2.5G band on my laptop as well as the desktop and could not figure out why I was unable to see the 5G band. However I was able to see the 5G band on the other smaller devices eg mobile phone and tablets. Took a while of Google and YouTube searching than I realized that if you laptop or desktop have only a 2.5G built in adapters than you need an adapter capable of receiving both bands. Notably the 801.11ac or one that supports both a and c. Once I got the right duel band adapter the ARRIS SURFboard WiFi cable box delivered that appropriate speeds. We usually have more than 6 devices connected at the same time without any lags or gaps in transmission or rather reception. This is the cable box you need if you are tired of paying the rental fees charged by the cable company. We now need someone to come up with the De-scramblers we're forced to rent from the cable company at ripoff prices, then we can get the monopolies (in our complex) from nickling and dimming us.

Works better (Wifi signal is a little better
Works better (Wifi signal is a little better, higher throughput speeds, etc) than the modem/router Cox gave me, but my personal issue with this device is that unlike some of their other router/modem combos, this does not have built in MOCA functionality. I purchased it with the intent to set up a MOCA network in my home, but now I have to buy an additional adapter which will run me $50-$70. I like the device, it does it's job very well but I can't five star it when such simple functionality isn't a part of it, when they have the firmware/hardware capability to do so.

Very impressive.
I purchased this router/modem after encountering much slower than expected speeds with the Netgear router that I had. The router was supposedly capable of handling up to 320Mbps service... I had 200Mbps through Comcast Xfinity, and I was only getting 50-55 Mbps on WiFi on the 5ghz channel. I spent over an hour troubleshooting with Comcast without making any progress, so I read some reviews on other router options. This one came up as a good option and I decided to give it a shot. Upon installing it, I did have to call Xfinity to get the new router provisioned (activated), and the Comcast rep told me during the setup process that he also had a netgear router and the 50Mbps with the Netgear router wasn't unusual for WiFi even with the 200Mbps Blast package that I had. He said that they don't guarantee any WiFi speeds (only wired/ethernet speeds). This made me less hopeful about the new router I had purchased, but when we got it up and running I ran a speed test and to my surprise found that I was getting almost 240 Mbps!! He was shocked as well, and said that he too would have to go out and buy an Arris router. I have run multiple speed tests since, since I understand that in an apartment building, high internet traffic in your building can significantly affect internet speeds due to channel congestion. The lowest I've ever recorded with the Arris router is 210Mbps and 90% of the time it clocks in at right around 230Mbps, even if I'm streaming video on other devices. Love the product, and given the improved performance, it's very worth spending the extra $ on a quality router.

Terrible experience. Avoid any device that forces you to use McAfee and performs as poorly as the Arris on 2.4Ghz.
I bought this cable modem on 1/12/17 because I was switching from AT&T to Comcast. Initial impressions, there are a lot of LED's and no option to turn them off. The latest software update (7/24/17) has an option, but it only disables the activity, not the power LED. Even the power LED is capable of lighting a bedroom up at night enough to disturb your sleep. Another problem that Arris can't resolve is the 2.4Ghz. It's incredibly slow. My wireless scanner, which was lightening fast on AT&T's Motorola modem, is dog on the Arris. Sometimes it even fails during the middle of the scan. A basic grey scale scan takes a minute to 2 minutes to complete on the Arris and was about 5 seconds on AT&T's Motorola. Arris support blames Canon, they couldn't get it through their thick heads that it works fine on other wifi equipment. The newest and biggest issue happened today when Arris and Comcast in their awesome wisdom decided to upgrade the cable modem OS. Now there is the McAfee Secure Home Platform now installed. Web sites that aren't blocked take about a second longer to load - just enough to irritate you. But the kicker is that it blocks a lot of websites that I use everyday. You should know you have no control over this and you can't go into the Arris software and disable it. Now McAfee does provide a button that says ignore. The problem says it may to a few minutes to enable. Often it fails to enable to site. Again you have no control over what sites are enabled or not. Perhaps McAfee will add this feature to it's site/side of the equation. Now you should know that I didn't ask for this to be installed. So I initiated a chat with Arris customer support. They couldn't figure out what to do and asked that I call in. I did such and the tech support guy stated nothing in the paper work they just received today was working. He transferred me to a tech at McAfee who preached how wonderful the software is and that in no way could it slow anything down and that it must be Comcasts fault that the unlock page feature takes minutes to complete and often fails (even though the message on the page says it can take a minute or two). Now you have to do this for every site you visit that McAfee in it's wisdom says in bad - including blogs and other sites that I typically go to. At this time McAfee stated they can only disable the software on their site and not in the Arris and that I must wait 24 hours for it to be disabled. They are supposed to call me back tomorrow. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY AN ARRIS. Buyer beware. I feel sorry for the person who's going to buy this flaming piece of junk from me in the next week or so on an auction site. Shame on Arris for pushing software I never asked for that impacts my web experience just so McAfee can make some money. Note that McAfee states that they will be charging for this bloatware after the 3 years are up and that this is a free trial I was subjected to. I guess since antivirus is included with Windows 10 that McAfee has to figure out new scams to make a profit. I will be filing a complaint with the FTC as well.

Will work on comcast/xfinity cable internet with a little work.
I did this to cut the cable tv out of my life. With the features embedded in my Visio 4k TV this is perfect to stream free tv and to supply my small house with wi-fi, with only 50 mbps @ 1.2 TB (you will never use that much data if you are single or pay attention to your data usage with your family) from xfinity. I can run my phone, my visitor's equipment, my tv and my PC at the same time on the Arris. Also, I have a cheap flat HD TV antenna that gets me 45 channels in the Seattle area including Fox, CBS and NBC, enough to watch some games and the news in the morning and evening. If you intend on running voice phone, I am not sure this is compatible it does not have a phone jack. I did struggle to get xfinity to ping successfully, they tried twice over the phone, and it failed, and they tried to send a technician, but I kept at it myself using their xfinity app and after I entered the correct MAC off the new modem, I did it myself. They (xfinity) told me to give them over the phone the WAN MAC # off the bottom and that is why it wouldn't ping the modem because the agent on the phone asked for the wrong MAC, there are 2 MAC #'s on the bottom of the modem/router, when I got up the next morning and still had no service and an appointment scheduled for 3 days away, I opened the xfinity app on my phone again and used the HFC MAC # on the bottom of the modem and boom $44 a month internet with no modem rental from xfinty. I paid $4200 for modem rental over the years not to mention cable box rental in the thousands both gone for good. The modem rental I save @ $25 per month will pay for the Arris in 8 months. Yes, it is hard to cut the cable and not buy a streaming service, try and not do it or you will be right back on the same hamster wheel, it was a real shock to not have DVR for my Nascar and football games and my favorite shows like Yellowstone, but over time like giving up crack, I realized this forced me to live in reality, if I want to watch a game, I have to be present for it, or not watch it. In the end the satisfaction of cutting my bill from $200 to $50 is enough to enjoy, my wi-fi, internet, free OTA network TV and 4K free TV. I also realized the TV I was watching is just noise anyway to occupy my time, I can find other ways to occupy my time and there is always my MSN browser to just cruise what is trending. The best part canceling a $200 xfinity tech visit that wasn't even necessary if the service agent knew their job. Satisfaction in Seattle!

Ditched Comcast Cable Modem and Cable service a month ago for Arris 7580 w/ dual Wifi. Unit sits on second story and speeds on first floor increased dramatically after easy setup. Have Roku Ultra connected to main TV (for wireless connection) and use Sling TV off the Roku. Multiple game systems also connected at different points in the house with no issues. Have every device connected to the 2.4 Wifi, off the Arris, except Roku. Roku by itself on 5.0. Have had minimal issues with Roku and Sling TV since purchase of Arris 7580. Occasional brief booting issues, where I'm kicked out to Roku home screen, but so minimal that it's a non-issue. Comcast is the only high-speed internet service provider in my development, so everyone is connected to Comcast. And still, no issues with speed thanks to the Arris. Had comcast's modem and older Wifi prior, and Sling TV was horrible, until I made this change, now no issues.

Poor WIFI and very bad technical support
I upgraded to ARRIS Surfboard to give my XFINITY a boost as my previous modem/router was old. While the wifi on my laptop improved, there are serious issues with WIFI on mobile devices. Even opening a webpage is slow and difficult. There is numerous literature online to fix router settings for such issues however i decided to give a call to technical support. The technical support after hearing the issue just replied there is nothing wrong can you contact your mobile device manufacturer? I have 4-5 devices and all were working fine before the replacement and i informed the support that this cannot be a device issue as i use it in multiple wifi networks without any issue. I requested to escalate the issue to second level technical support but they said the answer would be the same. Infact they asked me to just return the device if i am not happy with the performance In my opinion the product is just a cable model with a poor wifi router patched on top of it. On top of it their technical support staff is not willing to even diagnose the problem, maybe there were problems with some settings which could have been investigated. Maybe they could have suggested changing the position of the router but they were adamant that there are no issues. Because of the poor performance and even worse technical support i have requested for a return of the device
