Awesome water filter.
I plumbed this filter housing in and put a filter in it. I used brass fittings and went directly to PEX. No leaks and it was very easy to install. Immediately, I saw some black specks caught in the filter. None were larger than 2mm but there were a few. By day three, there were a lot more specks and I thought I could see a little yellowing of the filter. I am in it less than 2 months and the color is almost as dark as the OSB board that is on the wall behind it. I know that the municipal workers try their best and they do an awesome job with the huge systems they maintain. But pipes get old and you cannot help but get some dirt in the lines here and there. I would definitely recommend that everyone get one of these and use it. It functions very well and your peace of mind knowing you are getting cleaner water has to account for something. It will also help your other filters, ice maker, tap water, etc. last much longer.

Exactly What I Needed To Protect My New Culligan Water Softener System!
Very Well Made & Easy To Install! Love That Its Clear So I Monitor The Filter Condition. If you are installing outside be sure to cover up the clear part with something dark. This will help inhibit algae growth and lenghten the life of the housing

Works great for a farm well
After about 2 years of use on a farm well, it has been working just fine. The clear filter container is great for being able to see the condition of the filter. You will need to buy some food grade silicone grease such as DANCO Waterproof Silicone Faucet Grease -- the small applicator is perfect compared to wide mouthed applicators. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000DZFUPC/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 I also use PurePlus filters because they are less expensive: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VNF7772/ref=ewc_pr_img_2?smid=A34EVML7W5BEL9&th=1 Don't skimp on the silicone grease. Be sure to lube the top and bottom of the large o-ring. It takes a bit of strength to tighten the filter container, but the supplied bung tool is perfect. Be sure to monitor for drips. It can be temperamental to tighten with no dripping. I've had to remove it and apply more grease a couple times before it stopped dripping. Also, the large black o-ring will sometimes be stuck underneath the main filter body instead of staying on the clear filter container. I panicked the first time that happened, thinking I lost the ring.

Beware of potential Installation Issues. Reported CRACKING and leaks are a concern.
I bought and installed one of the Culligan WH-HD200-C Whole-House Filter units ahead of my water softener to filter out coarse iron and sand from my well water system. The coarse sediment that is in my well water would often clog the inlet/outlet screens in my water softener and I would notice a significant pressure and delivery drop. Then, skilled service is required to clean and re-charge the water softener. Installation of this unit solved that problem. (Note, My system operates at 35-55 psi. municipal water systems usually operate at around 70 psi.) In planning my installation, I elected to ensure that I could isolate the filter unit from the in and out-going water lines, as well as bypass them when filter change or service is required, even though the unit has an internal bypass. (See the picture of my installation.) That was a good decision, because when I went to change the filter for the first time at the six-month mark, the internal bypass valve was impossible to turn. Unscrewing the jar was also a challenge, but fortunately, I lubricated the O-Ring with Food-Grade Silicone the first time and I only snugged the jar up when I first installed it. (Note that both were very hard to turn right out of the box!) The large-diameter cross section of the O-Ring offers good compression and compliance and therefore sealing when the jar is only lightly tightened. Since then, I have changed the filter again, without issue because I re-lubricated the O-Ring each time and I didn't over-tighten the jar. Now, here are the issues I had at installation: 1. As others found, you must use a liberal amount of Teflon Tape to seal the internal threaded connections on the housing AND DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the fittings as this can lead to cracking of the housing.; 2. The mounting bracket that is supplied is flimsy. So, plan the installation so that your system can flex along with the filter, when you loosen/tighten the jar. Otherwise, your pipe joints must take the torque reaction and you may create new leaks, especially in the plastic housing, when you service the unit.; 3. I fabricated a floor-mounted weldment to hold the filter unit securely so that its weigh wouldn't be supported by my water softener and water system piping.; 4. DO NOT USE PIPE "DOPE" on the threads as these compounds usually have a petroleum or other oil base that can cause cracking in plastic.; 5. As an engineer with more than 60 years of experience, I have come to the conclusion that even though plastics are handy to manufacture and use, you can't beat typical metal construction. Look at how many plastic items have cracked and even disintegrated in you hands as they aged. I am not at all confident that this unit will even outlast me. The cracking experienced by other users of this product is a major concern to me. I also recommend to not install this unit in direct or reflected Sunlight, as UV Rays attack many plastics.; 6. Beware of water-hammer too, as the pressures experienced there may surpass the capacity to this unit. I hope that this is helpful.

Bought the Culligan as a replacement to a same sized GE unit which cracked after more than 10 years of use. It is very well made and comes with a decent mounting bracket which is a must because these types of filters are very difficult to unscrew. The bypass valve is very stiff and is probably meant to be like that because the wrench to undo the filter also has a slot to fit over the bypass valve handle. One note, on the GE filter I had to change the O-ring with every filter change because it would stretch when unscrewing the filter...not sure how it will be with the Culligan; the O-ring is much thicker...and is expensive! Culligan filters, at least on Amazon, are more expensive than other filters. Finally, someone mentioned that the female threads are plastic and prone to stripping: like all such products you have to screw it in delicately by hand as far as possible BEFORE using any mechanical tightening aid. Also remember to use a fair amount of teflon tape.

Didn't install yet, but the only downside in it so far is the valve being almost immovable Edit: after trying this filter I have encountered an issue -which seems to be common- the top valve is very hard to turn or sometimes impossible like in my case, this is due to the lubrication being almost dry. The solution is to use food grade silicone based lubricant in the valve, for that you need to remove one screw at the bottom which will release the red button on top as well as the spring underneath, this will allow you to remove the grey plastic top where two screws underneath it; once that done the entire white part can come out for lubrication (be careful not to lose the gaskets)
