Can you use this radio to signal your gps coordinates to the uscg in a mayday situation?

Ken, that's a great question. I have, fortunately, had no reason to test this out. It does have a distress signal function, which I assumed included gps coordinates, but honestly do not know for sure. Time for more research! Thanks for getting me to think about this more....

Can you purchase a longer antenna

The hight the antennae is mounted is more important than the length of it. VHF is line of sight. The higher the tip of the antennae, the farther the signal can "see."

what does the "NB" in model number refer too?

The NB is for navy blue. There is also a black model.
