Talking to Siri: Learning the Language of Apple's Intelligent Assistant 2nd Edition

Siri is much more than speech to text. Siri can send messages, email, and help you make phone calls. Siri can make appointments, remind you to do something, set an alarm to wake you up, and set a timer when cooking. Siri can answer questions about the time, the weather, movies, and many many other things. Once you get the hang of it, you can even just chat with Siri when you are board.I have worked with computers for 34 years, and there has always been the idea that someday we will just ask a computer for information instead of writing a program, or constructing a query. However, computers (and smart phones) must have very precise instructions to perform correctly. Good news, Siri is surprisingly flexible in understanding our requests.This book does three important things for us. It is an excellent review of all of the things Siri can do. It explains what is required from us to get Siri's cooperation. It gives multiple examples for each function. This is the most immediately useful how-to book I have ever read.

Everything this book told me, I already knew. There are still many things I want to learn, even if it is to learn that it can't be done yet. But none of those things were covered. I don't need to learn how to ask Siri stupid questions and get silly answers. I don't need Siri to help me social network.I do need Siri to write accurate notes, and do quick math. I need tips on how to say things to get the most accurate results. Most of all I need to be able to spell out words that Siri doesn't understand, and have her send links to on-line info back to my email. The book was not helpful with any of this. I need my own personal Siri trainer or an interactive internet class.

I have used this book a little bit to get started using Siri. However, after some of the basics, like how to get to Siri and how to talk to Siri, it seems one doesn't need it that much.

Covers the basics, and shows you the range of what Siri is intended for. I am definitely using Siri more often now, and in more ways.

This hugely gets into bones of Siri inc. hidden data usages and extra benefits, user powers nor appeasement from running program in casual way.

I still am learning how to to dictate or need a Speech Pathologist... Hints on what to use Siri for are still developing.

I finally learned the power of Siri by using this book. OMG!I never realized how much you can do with Siri. This book is worth it's weight in gold...I am so happy I purchased this book.

Very helpful! I had no idea Siri could handle so much. This is a little sea change for Siri and me!

It is a decent book but after reading it I was more struck by the limitations of Siri than the uses. My reaction may be to Siri rather than the book but my conclusion after getting through the book, is this is not yet a very useful system and the introduction etc suggests Siri will be useful if one learns the language.I was looking for its use as an aid to someone with impaired vision and as far as I can recall that aspect was never really discussed in the book. Siri should be useful for blind people but it probably is not yet.

Das Buch gibt eine hervorragende Anleitung zum Gebrauch von Siri - dem sprechenden Hilfsprogramm des iPads. Der große Nachteil ist natürlich, dass das Buch für die englische Sprache geschrieben wurde und daher einiges erraten werden muß, wie das im Deutschen heißen könnte. Darüberhinaus gibt es einige Features, die im Deutschen überhaupt nicht funktionieren - wie das Aufrufen der amerikanischen Datenbank Wolfram Alpha, die leider nur englisch spricht. (In dem Buch ist eine Möglichkeit angedeutet, wie man die englische Sprache benutzen kann - ich will versuchen, ob man auf diesem Weg zu "Wolfram Alpha" gelangen kann. Falls mir das gelingt, werde ich hier noch ein Update einfügen.)Aber grundsätzlich hat mir das Buch die Bedenken zu Siri genommen.Gary
