GRE: Practicing to Take the General Test 10th Edition (Practicing to Take the Gre General Test)

I took the GRE twice within two months. November 2009 and again in Dec 2009. Princeton Review was right on my score difference. My 2nd test scores wasn't as good. This book is an easy read with some humor in it. The writers do a good job building your confidence. The best advice that I found in the book is the importance of scoring really well in the first 1/3 of the test! That is crucial as your score is pretty much determined by then. ETS book doesn't acknowledge it but its true! Also, the Princeton Review provided a perfect template to utilize when writing the analytical section. I scored a 4 on that. After reading these reviews and other reviews on Amazon, I purchased this one (2010) plus Barron's Essential Words for the GRE, and Barron's GRE flash cards. There is an overlap with the words of the GRE flash cards and vocabulary words in the Princeton Review, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I found myself reading through the Princeton Review because its an easy read and it gives you very useful strategies in taking the test. I used them and scored well on the math. My verbal wasn't great but if I had more time to build my vocabulary I would have done a lot better. This is a must have book! Also, the online companion is great because you can practice a GRE. The scores I got on that test were close to the ones that I got on the actual GRE. For vocabuary, I would purchase the Barron's Essential Words which I previously mention. That is a thorough book but you need to give yourself several months to work through the book. There were words in that book that were on the GRE. For math, in addition to the Princeton Review, I got a lot out of the GRE flash cards. The math cards in Barron's GRE flash cards were very helpful.Also, I would buy ETS's test booklet as well. Like the princeton review after you take the practice test questions in the book they explain the logic behind why which answer is the right one.If you can give yourself a solid 3 months of practicing you will do well. Princeton Review discourages from studying too long on the test because you can forget some of the strategies by the time you take the test. I had to take time out to write this review there are so many resources out there. Also, check out [...]-you can practice your vocabulary, GRE type questions, and math questions. I bought this book to practice for a GRE after a GRE debacle. I went in to test without preparation, and got some really horrifying scores - 440 Verbal and 590 Math. This was a wake up call, so I purchased 2 books which I used to study for the GRE, one of which was this book, Practicing to Take the GRE 10th Ed by ETS. I also had limited time to practice - having procrastinated, I only had 3 weeks before the score submission deadline. I took the test this morning, and the resulting scores are much better - 660 verbal, and 730 math, more than sufficient for the grad school I have in mind.The value of this GRE practice book is its verbal and math practice tests. Although these practice tests are pen and paper, they provide two important advantages: (1) you can get a lot faster because these tests have more questions which are to be done in less time than the computer-based GRE, and (2) these are real GRE questions that will give you a preview of all the nuances that you would need to understand on sentence completions and analogies. There are other benefits such as picking up words you have never seen or used before, and recalling all the math concepts you have probably long forgotten. All of the above was important to me because English is my second language, and, therefore, my vocabulary is somewhat limited. When taking the GRE the second time, I still did not know all the words - I don't think it is possible - but I knew enough to exclude the inappropriate answers.I would not recommend buying this book to study the strategy - Princeton GRE books do a much better job from the outsider (test taker) perspective. However, practicing with this book will give you insights into the logic behind the GRE questions. To learn the effective strategy, I would recommend Cracking the GRE with DVD, 2011 Edition by Princeton Review. I also used Anki, a free flash card software which you can download off the net, to practice the "hit parade" GRE words provided by the Princeton Review.

I just took the GRE and did really well, and this book was necessity for me. Everybody studies differently, and different things work for different people. I found taking lots of practice tests to be extremely helpful. Nobody can duplicate real GRE questions. Only the ETS can write those distinctive questions, and this is the only book that contains real, ETS-written, GRE questions. It does contain only paper-based practice exams, which are a little different than the computer-based exam that most of us now take. However, it's just the format that's different- not the questions. The questions in this book are just like the questions I saw on the actual test. I studied a lot, and did every single practice exam in this book over the course of time. I did this after going through the Princeton Review's Cracking the GRE, Barron's Essential Words for the GRE and GRE for Dummies. I also got a computer program from Kaplan, which contained no new info but helped me prep for doing the test on a computer. Cracking the GRE and GRE for Dummies both contain detailed breakdowns of the computer-based GRE format, so as long as you familiarize yourself with it, all that matters is understanding the content on the GRE, which is the same on the paper-based as it is on the computer-based. I would highly recommend downloading the PowerPrep software from the ETS website- it's free and has two computer-based practice tests.Definitely start timing yourself about a month before you take the test- the timing was the hardest part for me. You have to be REALLY fast.All in all, this book was quite helpful to me- used in conjunction with other materials.

Absolut notwendiges Übungsbuch für deninternationalen GRE Englisch Test.Leider sind die Fragen schwer undschwierig zu beantworten, aber ohneÜbungsbuch ist der Test nicht zu bewältigen.

didnt help me at all no method u reammy need a teacher to guide you throught the book and the im articularly bad at math and it just confused me even more! not a fan of this book/method at all!

GREを初めて受ける前に、この本で問題慣れしておくべきです。ある程度問題傾向がつかめるでしょう。しかし、この本は古いので、現在のGREの問題と少し違います。またレベルも多少易しいと思います。公式問題集なので良本となるべきなのですが、古すぎると言うのが正直な意見です。初めの一冊として使うのが良いと思います。

ＧＲＥは、日本人には難しすぎるバーバル、日本人には簡単すぎる数学、そして独特のテクニックが必要なライティングの３つのセクションがあります。この本では、各セクションの答え方や採点基準が練習問題が続きます。特にバーバルの解き方やライティングの採点基準は参考になるのではないかと思います。練習問題は、ＥＴＳのウェブや受験を申し込むと送られてくるＣＤ−ＲＯＭでも体験することができますが、それにプラスする形で使うといいと思います。採点基準などはＥＴＳのウェブに載っている情報ではありますが、紙に打ち出してじっくり読みたい人には、手間や紙代を考えればこの値段は安いのではないかと思います。
