Very nice reel.
Great reel. Great value for money. Great all purpose set up. Put on a Diawa Tatula 7 ft med fast rod. 10 lb Seaguar stealth braid to 12 lb Seaguar flouro with an FG knot. Catfish, Carp, bass, bluegill and most calico bass and such on half day boats no problem. Good for throwing swimbaits and such. Drag is extremely robust and the reel is so smooth and durable.

Nice reel for the price.
I own 2 6000's, 2 4000's, 2 3000's, and a 2500. They are all well used in the surf, inshore, and pier. The drags are solid and smooth. The reels are not featherweight, but contain NO plastic gears or parts inside. Nice smooth retrieve. Crank bearings are sealed, which is nice. Learn to do the necessary maintenance, and rinse with fresh water after salt use, and they will last a long time. It only takes a couple small screwdrivers and some reel grease. Videos are available on YouTube.

Oh, Just Buy it ... Can't go wrong.
Any Daiwa BG is worth its weight in gold when it comes to fishing. Have several in all models and sizes. Will buy more. None have failed me yet.

Best in class in the $80-$90 range
Pros: Smooth. Great drag. Casts well. Braid ready. Looks great. Hard to beat at this price point. Cons: Heavy compared to more expensive reels. The "shank" on this reel is a little short given the huge rotor / bail. The result, in the smaller sizes, is that the bail is much closer to the rod than I am accustomed to. As such, I've had to pay attention to and/or adjust how I hold the rod to keep the bail from hitting my knuckles during the retrieve. So if you tend to hold your rod just above the reel seat as I do, you may run into a similar issue.

Good and durable little reel.
This is an outstanding reel, it has a rubber gasket around the spool to make it easy to spool braid without any hassle or need for a monofilament backing. The handle just screws on, it seemed kinda shady to me but it hasn't loosened or threatened to come off yet so i'm pleased so far. The BG 3000 is a small reel, the action is very good and smooth and with practice you can make it reel without even using the handle. It's built like a tank and it is easy to adjust the drag. I combined mine with a 7 foot ugly stik with 20lbs test green spiderwire and it's been phenomenal so far.

Can't be beat. Period.
Daiwa BG reels have literally set the standard for other brands in the 100 dollar price range, and they've set it high! It's just as nice as its more expensive brother, the daiwa saltist, just as smooth too. Not exactly the same, but the BG is the choice reel! You can bet the dependability and longevity of these reels cause their competitors to lose sleep at night. If you're on the fence about getting one of these, don't think a minute more, they're an incredible reel. You won't believe how smooth and long lasting they are. Super easy 5 stars from me and my guys, and we fish hard!

Simply Excellent
The BG is simple excellent, even though it doesn't have many of the fancy high end features like airbail or magseal, the simplicity brought the price down so much, the value you get from the BG is just incredible. Yet still, the standard features offered by DAIWA is still surpassing most brands on the market. BG is a direct competitor to 200+ gbp product with only half of the price tag. It's salt water ready with high power sealed drag and full aluminum body. Digigear rotor system offers excellent line twist management which is only matched by shimano's dyno system. And screw on handle on a reel sales for 100 pounds, this is unheard in the past for big brands. Through the decades of my fishing experience, I had more than 2 dozens of reels, from cheap sub 50 to mid high end 250 pounds priced ones. I'm not a pro fishing man, my buying intention is always to get the best value out of every pound I spend. I've seen how products changed over the last two decades and knows very well what matters and makes the difference. I always tell my friends to buy shimano because they put on their best spool system on every reel they make even it's the cheapest alivio range. In the recent year though, I'm favoring DAIWA over shimano because: 1. DAIWA is now putting their same high end spooling system on cheap reels as well.I have a ninjia as well spools just the same as the BG and just the same as the saltiga. 2. Daiwa reels are so smooth, while you argue if shimano does the same what makes choose daiwa over shimano, I can tell you it's the smoothness, even at 150-200 pounds range, shimano just doesn't do smoothness as well as daiwa. Arguably shimano may feel more balanced and probably have more high tech offered. e.g. Aero FA4000 and Stradic fk is an excellent reel in comparison with similar price range, similar feature offered and in similar weight cat. 3. Salt water or fresh water, I often find shimano's reel with the BG's price range often isn't salt water ready, this goes true for the Aero FA4000. 4. Price, yes again price. I would be happily to buy a shimano stradic over the Daiwa BG if they are in the same price range, Right now Stradic FK costs 30% more than the BG, for that price I chose the Lexa with oil seal, upped one size to Lexa 4000 and paid exactly the same price of a Stradic FK. (Stradic FK is still an excellent reel, it offers other features that you may care more than I do.) I know my arguments may down to my personal preference a lot, but I hope writing down my opinion on them gives readers a good variety of viewing angles.

Solid as it gets.
Having my ci4+ drag washers turn into lint really made me rethink how light I want a reel to be. I forgot how good a solid aluminum frame felt. Never going back. As smooth as it gets and solid in the hands. Great reel, I will be selling my stradics and switching all over to bgs. Aluminum > composites. The features they packed in at this price point is insane.

Great value for money.
This reel is one of the smoothest I have had. The full Aluminium body and oversized gear give a robust impression and I am sure it will hold up well for saltwater use as long as the reel is lightly rinsed with fresh water after use. I have had another Daiwa reel before which never gave up on me after years of saltwater use, and I am confident that this BG will be as good. The reel also has good line capacity and given its metal construction tends to be on the heavier side when compared to other similarly sized composite reels. This extra weight may not be so advantageous for day-long active spinning, but I consider this a negligible factor when compared to the great features you get with this reel. At this price point I think that this is one of the very best reels from a reputable manufacturer you can possibly get. I would highly recommend this reel for saltwater anglers.

Suspiciously worn box. Spool not oscillating from new.
My first Daiwa reel and from all the great reviews of the BG series I was really looking forward to adding this to my collection. Unfortunately my impressions were not good from the get go. The reel box (not the Amazon packaging) arrived from the US looking very shelf worn and sealed with what looked like a small piece of green electrical tape. My initial thoughts were "Hmmm.... this had better not be a refurbished item", but the upon opening the box I could see the leaflets and paperwork creased crammed in on top. Not looking very professional. Thankfully all the parts looked clean and good to go. I fixed the handle to the reel and gave it a gentle crank waiting for that butter smooth action the reviews talk of.......nope. There was a distinct clunky feel to the action and the spool was not oscillating. After contacting Amazon customer support they sent me the return labels to print out but they were not accepted by Australia Post. Two more phone calls to support and as many different labels to try the last rep told me as an international customer (even though it was sold & shipped by Amazon US) they do not cover return postage to their hub in Sydney and could I drop it off there . . . . ah sorry but that is a 5 hour flight from where I live . After most of the morning talking to customer support I managed to get it refunded but after so many positive experiences with Amazon I've been left feeling very reluctant to make international purchases through Amazon.
