J-B Weld ExhaustWeld 2" x 72" Repair Wrap, White

My wife's car got a crack in the exhaust pipe which also has the front catalytic converter. I did not want to replace it just now, but I also did not want to the pipe to drop if the crack spread. This product wraps around the pipe and will provide supports to about six inches of the pipe. It cures well and seems extremely strong. It is easy to install, just wrap it around. It is good and sticky, has enough length for a few wraps of the pipe, and is certainly a cost effective temporary repair compared to running into the muffler shop. I've had this on her car for a couple of weeks and there is no leakage.

This stuff works great on an old junker that you don't want to put much money into. Seals up the exhaust leak and so far has lasted over a year. Neighbors really appreciate how well it works at 4 in the morning!

Good for a pinch and when you dont have any alternatives before you can get a real fix. Only thing to remember is that it is permanent and will mess up your pipes or surface if you need to remove it. My muffler shop had to grind this off to be able to weld the new muffler/pipe on.

So what if it is a little messy...it should be so plenty of material for the cloth tape. They give a set of gloves for the hands and spread a little paper under your work and not a problem! This was my second purchase of this product for a hacked together exhaust for my portable generator to get the exhaust [ported out of the garage. Fist kit used and I let it set and it cured at Washington State ambient summer temperature. Last week there was a power failure and i finally used my get and the kit/patch held up just fine, though the aluminum tape came right off with the heat the wrap did not. But the pipe blew off in another spot so my second kit is to secure that splice. This time I used a heat gun to cure the wrap and did not bother with the aluminum tape. The wrap cured very quickly with the heat gun, it is not summer anymore so the extra heat was a good idea. Looking forward to the next power failure, I think I have it nailed! The repair itself worked well and covered my hole on my Toyota Sienna, so I can't complain about the effectiveness of the product. However, I am disappointed by the amount of wrap included. The package stated that it contained 72 inches of wrap. My exhaust pipe has a circumference of roughly 7 inches, and the instructions recommended applying about 5 layers while extending the wrap 2-4 inches beyond the damaged area on each side. Based on those measurements, I expected to have enough material for approximately 10 wraps around the pipe. Instead, one package only provided about 4 wraps. I had purchased a second package as a backup in case I found additional damage elsewhere under the vehicle, but I ended up needing it immediately just to complete the repair as instructed. Because I was working underneath the vehicle, I did not stop to stretch out and physically measure the wrap, so I cannot say with certainty that it was shorter than advertised. However, based on the circumference of the pipe and the number of wraps I was able to make, the amount of material seemed significantly less than the stated 72 inches. The repair worked, but the quantity included did not match my expectations, and I had to use a second package to complete a repair that I believe should have been possible with one.

I trust the brand, and I've had exhaust repair wrap fail before, so I went with JB Weld. Most repair tape is slightly sticky and has resin that melts and then cures in place. This stuff is fiberglass roving (cloth) that's in a packet of premixed wet epoxy. It's slippery and goopy. It's messy and a little tricky, especially if you don't have a lot of clearance. That said, the wrap is pretty forgiving, so you don't have to be perfect with it. The lightweight nitrile gloves included will probably tear, and I recommend having your own better-weight disposable gloves already. Don't work with your face below the pipe, because you may drip epoxy. Wear workclothes accordingly, and clean off any epoxy that gets on your skin. The pack includes aluminum tape to hold the wrap in place while it cures. I didn't use that -- I used stainless steel zip ties -- so I don't know how well the tape works, but it's probably OK. The epoxy takes a couple of hours to dry unless you sit there with the engine idling to keep the exhaust pipe hot. It seems secure when it's dry. This stuff is rated for higher temperatures than most repair wraps, which is definitely promising.

Don’t waste your time with this stuff. My exhaust pipe broke at the weld. I figured I’d try this tape. Even though it was great for the first week, the tape ended up getting frayed and broke at the seam again. Save yourself the headache and don’t bother with this stuff.

Easy to Use will definitely buy again for future use. I highly recommend this product. I am the type that loves simple and easy. Not only that, but when the product WORKS and is simple and easy? Life doesn't get any better than that!

only few days is just crack

I tried the paste before this and it just cracked, this has stayed in one piece. It works great. Not much to say really. It cures on its own in a couple of hours or you can start the car and cure it quicker with the heat. I let mine sit overnight rather than rush it. Maybe that helps.

Very good product but sadly the repair didn't last as the hole was to big.

The flange for my catalytic converter is rusting out almost completely and the garage said it's $700 just for the part. Figured I'd try this stuff first and see what it can do. After applying it in the fall the check engine light went away and exhaust sounded and performed back to brand new. I assumed it wouldn't last through the tough Canadian winter and by the end of the winter I started noticing my exhaust getting loud again. Took a look at it and the wrap held up perfectly but my converter is now rusting out from the other side so I'm just going to buy 2 more wraps. These things seem to hold up pretty well. Just going to keep adding wraps until the whole exhaust falls off because who can afford to fix their vehicle anymore with this economy. I did notice there's a bit of a burning smell coming off and it smoked a bit at the start so keep an eye on that but nothing started on fire so probably fine. If my car lights up and burned to the ground it would probably end up being a good thing for me since who can afford to buy a new car in this economy. Might as well just let everything fall apart and burn to the ground these days, since I'll likely own nothing and yeah sure I'll be happy why not. At least we saved 40 grandmas and our governments can make bank off carbon taxes.
