I thought I was as well but it was under the foam. I would just message them and I bet they will make it right

Q: Should the stopper be pushed into the hole from the bottom up or the top down?

The hooks twist apart into 2 segments. Insert the narrow segment through the hole in the bottom of the installed stopper and then twist on to the wider segment. Are you saying that the rubber stopper is not in the hole in the glass already? I don't think it matters which direction you push from.. mine came installed and it looks symmetrical to me.. if one end is wider I'd push from the inside out leaving the wide end on the inside.

You put water in it. The ants won’t get in the water. They work great, hold a nice amount of water and they look amazing. I think they are a must have. I have bought other metal ones but I am constantly adding water because it evaporates quickly
