Awesome product, well made
I purchased this comb as a result of several other products purchased previously from Striking Viking. I was impressed with the quality and excellent results I got with my beard using their beard oil, beard balm, and a dual-sided coarse and fine 4 inch comb of theirs, also made of Sandalwood. 4 1/8" long by 1 1/8" wide when folded, it is roughly the size of a decent pocketknife..without the heft. Strange as it may sound, the comb smells good. I spend a few extra moments when combing my mustache just to get a smell or two, similar to taking a little extra time with good Scotch. Fits nicely in just about any pocket I have: jeans, sportcoat, shirtpocket....and sturdy. When unfolded there is no wobble or flex at the hardware, which is snugged with a Phillips head. If it were to loosen up with use it's a simple matter to snug it back down again. Anti-static, it flows through my beard as designed. When wet I normally air dry it immediately after use and have never noticed any moisture seeping into it, nor has it twisted or warped from any changes in humidity. Of note, it has darkened very slightly as a result of the beard oils that have slowly soaked in over time. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. If it were no longer manufactured my # 2 choice would be the similar comb by Beard & Bates.

Very nice beard comb
Very nice beard comb; I don't have a lot of facial hair to get through, just a goatee, but it's fairly thick and this comb glides through it nicely. Teeth are very regular, well-polished, and the spacing is fine enough to get knots out while being wide enough not to tug unpleasantly. The finish is just wax on the bare wood, which means the sandalwood smell is very apparent; personally I like the scent, but green sandalwood does have a different scent than red sandalwood. It's compact enough for a pocket, and the teeth are well-protected from accidental breakage by the folding design. The nut is simple to tighten with a philips head screwdriver: mine came fairly loose, but five seconds of fiddling got it tight enough to stay open on its own and prevent accidentally opening in a pocket. And, as a fan of exotic woods, I love the interlocking grain pattern. After having done some research, I've found that the "green sandalwood" used in combs like these is most likely verawood, commonly known as Argentine lignum vitae. This is one of the densest and most durable woods in the world, which is probably why it's so popular for combs. Just makes me love the comb even more, since I have something of an affinity for this wood and the (distantly) related true lignum vitae. Well-made, attractive, and functional. Would definitely recommend.

Could be great, but...
The product is actually nice, the comb unfolds and is a little stiff even when loosened with screw. bBut that is okay I feel it will loosen up over time. But the comb came with a small crack as seen in the pictures at the base in between the teeth. Now I didn’t think this would be too big of an issue but it makes the comb unusable. Hair gets caught in that crack, gets struck, and pulls. There is also a small crack along the spine, which looking at it I don’t think it would cause any issues besides possibly snagging a thread in your pocket. The comb also had a scent I wound say imbedded into the wood. Oil saturated my guess. It is a pleasant smell but it is noticeable. Lastly it is a little thicker than I thought it would be. Not a big deal just wasn’t expecting it to be as thick as it is. You can see from the pictures, measured out it’s .5” thick. I am reaching out to company to see what they say about come and crack. And pending the result I will update this review accordingly. UPDATE Company reached out and replaced the comb immediately. Great customer service, new come works great. Again the only issue I’ve found is the hinge screw likes to come loose. A drop of locktite and it’s good.

The best I've found... But not perfect.
While this is a very high quality product, it does have one flaw. (at least the one I got did) As noted by some of the other reviewers, the comb part of the folding comb does not want to stay open when using the comb. Tightening the screw does no good as it is designed to only screw in so far so that over-tightening doesn't crack the wood. The solution: I used some very thin (about 1 mm thickness) flexible vinyl to make two washers to fit on each side of the rotating comb part. It makes it very snug and shouldn't wear out for a long time if ever. The difficult part was getting the hand-cut tiny washers to get in place so that I could put the screw through to hold it all together. I actually used a very, VERY tiny amount of superglue to hold the washers to the comb so that it could slide in without the washers losing their place. Just a dot of superglue on each side of the washers with a toothpick was sufficient. I let that dry while pressing it tightly then it slid in place with no issues. I'm surprised that this was overlooked by the company as quite a few people have mentioned this same problem. Thus the 4 instead of 5 stars. This is still a wonderful quality comb and can be made perfect with just those two tiny washers. I also applied some super fine sandpaper to knock down the very tip of the comb to a more rounded shape as it was a little sharper than I liked and felt like it was cutting my ear when I combed closely towards that direction. Again, easily solved but would have been nice if these small issues didn't have to be addressed by the consumer. I highly recommend this comb. I carry it every day in my pocket. It's a little thicker than non-wooden combs but it's not a big deal. It's made of Sandalwood and the natural smell is wonderful. Fully open the comb is exactly 7 1/16 inches (179 mm) long. The closed position dimensions are 30 mm x 107 mm x 13 mm at the widest points (not counting the screw which sits flush about 1 mm each side). The actual teeth of the comb spans 64 mm from first to last saw cut. It fits nicely in my pocket and is great to have handy for a quick moustache and beard combing. I find myself combing my beard just to smell the Sandalwood. Buy this comb for yourself or as a gift to a fellow bearded one. You will love it. You may even be lucky enough to get one that stays open when you receive it. You can always add the washers for more snug operation if you need to.

Improved title for product used for more than beards
I bought my own Striking Viking comb. I have no beard. I like the comb's sturdy design and I carry it with me most of the time. I gave one to my wife and plan on giving one to our oldest daughter as well. You all define the wooden combs as for "a better beard" but the combs are very suitable for any application of combing hair. Could you be "scaring off" customers by saying the combs are for beards? I for one hope not but …. They are a great product in my opinion and need not be linked to beards alone. And no, I do not think they need to be redesigned so women will select them. My wife likes the durability and nice look of a wooden comb with a protective cover as part of the comb. Articles in the National Geographic have shown that female Viking ship captains were buried with their weapons and their ships suggesting that Vikings were not just men. Why suggest your product is for beards and seemingly linking it to men? Look up Viking combs on the internet. Many pictures of the designs of old wooden combs suggest they may have been for use by women as well as men. The folding wooden comb is a great product!!

The perfect traveling beard comb!!!
I bought this comb as a birthday gift for my husband. He was in need of a good wooden comb that he could take with him everywhere he goes but not break in his pocket. This looked like it fit the bill, and boy did it ever! He LOVES this comb! He's always combing his beard with it where ever he goes just as I hoped it would work! It's sturdy, the folding capability is super nice feature for traveling, it's great pocket size when folded, and works exactly how he needs it too! No more static from the plastic hair comb he used to use and the smell of the sandalwood is one of his favorite features! He was so impressed that he bought another one as a gift for a friend of his and his friend loves too! I would without doubt recommend this comb to any man needing a good travel worthy pocket beard comb that can hold up most in pocket abuse that comes with so many men's lifestyles!

I like it, but have major concerns about longevity.
Let’s start with the positives: I like this comb, it has a very classic old school vibe. It folds up very small and can be packed into very small places. I do not notice any issues with the open/close movement that a lot of other reviews mention. What I don’t like: Take a look at the two photos I attached. The comb was delivered like that. I do not believe that this comb will last very long. I think that the very first time I drop this comb, it will probably break. This seems like a major lapse in quality control. I will continue to use this. If it’s still holding up in a year, I’ll come back and update this review.

Good but not as long
Good materials and aesthetics. Unfortunately I found it a bit small for my beard. Would be nice if it was longer

Vraiment top

Absolutely awesome. It's been with me on the road for years now and is still as good as the day I bought it. Built to last and exceptional quality.

Stylish, compact, and smooth
Folds neatly for pocket or travel use. Wood finish looks premium and glides through beard without pulling. Sturdy hinge and overall solid feel. A classy upgrade from plastic combs.
