Mrs Wordsmith Storyteller's Word A Day, Grades 3-5: + 3 Months of Word Tag Video Game

I really enjoyed this book and I’m excited to use it in my classroom. I love how it can be propped to stand up on its own and has a spiral binding. Most of the words are really great and are used commonly in the language of books. I plan to use it as a fun addition to morning meeting in my first grade classroom. My own kids thought the drawings were funny although I think some of them are a little crass; specifically “Bearnice” who sports a crop top with a large chest. Overall, I think it will be a good resource and I can just skip any words that are too hard, or not age appropriate. 180 words is enough for one each school day. I love how on the back they have a sentence or two that uses the word and describes the picture on the front. I also love the synonym lists and word pairs. I also have the Mrs. Wordsmith Blah, Blah, Blah game which my first graders love, and it features the cat characters that are on this book.

I have four children and bought this primarily for my 5 and 7-year-olds. Maybe 2 of the words have been new to my 12 and 14-year-olds (avid readers.) We LOVE it! The kids can't wait to turn the page each morning and they are learning the words really easily from this format. The information on the back of each page and the discussion that always follows really helps the vocab stick. My only complain is with some of the illustrations. For example, all of the characters are animals, and the bear has really (quite unnecessarily) prominent breasts. Maybe it is supposed to be funny, but I just find it to be inappropriate, especially considering the target audience. Also, a few of the pictures have been quite harsh or sad, and my kids haven't wanted to stay on that picture. I wish the illustrators would make a few modifications, but overall, this is a really great purchase. I would highly recommend it for expanding your students' vocabularies!

We love this! We review one word a night at dinner with my k and first grade aged kids. We have the 3-5 version and it’s challenging but attainable for them. They frequently tell me when they’ve heard one of the words in their day. I love this product. I will retire it to my classroom when my own kids are finished with it.

We're using this as a word of the day game for my incoming first grader. If he uses the word of the day three times accurately by bedtime he gets a bead that he can turn in for prizes later. It's working great! I really love the illustrations and simple definitions! They help him to quickly understand the word. I plan on reusing this again in a couple of years when he's a better reader because the back of the page has a lot of useful information that I think an older child would really benefit from. Love the top spiral flip. It stands effortlessly on the table. I would definitely recommend!

We just started homeschooling this year and this has been such a fun addition to our morning routine. My kids (8 and 7) love learning new, lively, descriptive words they can incorporate in their daily conversations.

Got this to introduce new vocabulary. My kids really like it. We do a word a day and they are always asking to flip it at night. The pictures are fun and the definitions are really clear. A great way to make learning fun.

I stumbled upon Mrs. Wordsmith Storyteller's Word A Day while searching for a way to expand my kids' vocabularies, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer. Even though my kids are older than the suggested age range, their vocabularies could still use some improvement, and this set is perfect for that. We've turned it into a fun daily ritual to learn a new word together, and it's been such a hit in our household. Definitely recommend it for families looking to spice up their word game!

I was a little hesitant to buy this as once you go through it, you've gone through it - it's not a replenishing supply of words - HOWEVER I have four kids ages 14-5 and they LOVE it. They argue who is going to flip it to a new word - and we do this every few days or so - but they love looking at the pictures and seeing how that displays the word. My 5 year old has starting using the word "egregious" which I think is both amazing but also hilarious. And he seems to be understanding the meaning because he described his friend's behaviour as egregious to indicate it was poor behavior. The online game that comes with the word bank is a bust though - kids can only play a certain level or alotted time a day and it runs out super fast- like 5 minutes.

Good for learning on the go, the illustrations have a bit of a interesting taste but happy with the purchase. Sturdy and would be a good gift for ages 8 to 10 or earlier if kids and adults want to start early. I also reduced a star as half of the words weren't as positive as I'd like. They also use the word fat. This is what I've noticed so far. They are words aren't so commonly used but good to know if you're already quite fluent with the language.

Bought this for my 9 year old son. He loves turning it over each morning to discover the word of the day. Great for practical use of the word e.g. learning how to use it in a sentence

My daughter loves it but one of the reasons we bought it was to try word tag for 1 month? Or 3month for free but it wouldn't let us use the code somehow. It was disappointing.

We really like this book.DD enjoys, turning the page to see a new word, and the funny cartoon characters every day. She gets a real kick out of it.!

Great word choices, easy to follow, and flexible to use. It is thin paper, I wish they were printed on cardstock to survive the wear and tear of the classroom.
