Do pond plants need soil?

Most marginal plants prefer aquatic planting baskets filled with aquatic compost. Some oxygenators can be placed directly into the water.

How many plants do I need for my pond?

A small pond (up to 2m²) typically needs 5–8 marginal plants plus 1–2 oxygenators. Larger ponds benefit from greater diversity.

Do pond plants help reduce algae?

Yes. They compete for nutrients and provide shade, which helps limit algae growth naturally.

Are pond plants safe for fish and wildlife?

Yes, pond plants provide shelter, oxygenation, and natural filtration, creating a healthier environment for fish, insects, and amphibians.

How often should I prune pond plants?

Generally once a year, remove dead or yellowing foliage in autumn and trim back overgrowth in summer.
