How thick is this mat?

It is 1.5 cm, slightly less than 5/8" thick.

Is mat phalate free? Does it contain toxic metals?

Most Balanced Body equipment I have contains a warning that it includes cancer causing materials. I can’t speak to the specifics.

Does this mat hurt your knees when you exercise?

No. It is soft and spongy. A great Pilates mat. However I do not have problems with my knees generally.

Does this mat stretch if in downward dog?

I don’t know if stretch is the correct word, but I find it difficult for my feet to grip the mat when in downward dog.
