WOW!
I have only had this recorder for a couple of weeks, and it exceeds my wildest expectations! I have made several recordings of classical music where I merely set the recorder on top of the organ console I was playing. The recordings have been amazing, even without optimal microphone placement. I can hardly wait to "officially" set in in the right position, with external, highest quality microphones to see what it will do. An yes, I will be recording at the highest sampling rates and best s/n settings. It truly makes a difference. If you care about sound, this recorder is for you; it feels solid, and is not overly complicated to use. So many capabilities in such a small package!

Very happy customer here
Just purchase this a couple week ago to record drumming sound. My only use-case for this product is to record S/PDIF audio which is the output of my electronic drum set. This mean that entire production flow is now fully digital. It work flawlessly. Just select input source as Digital, Hit record button. and that's it. It have line-out jack which make my life much easy when I want to do a live stream. Build quality is superb. I'm very satisfied.

Ageless wonder
Completely satisfied with the unit. Love the built-in lithium recharge battery, I also use 2 AA LITHIUMS; the fact that the XLR PORT can also accept a plug in Jack. The low noise was the bonus for me.I'm using the unit to capture audio for video on my NIKON D850; as well as sounds for projects. I tested several other audio devices and the all fell short. As dated as this device is it still does the job.

Archival Transfers
I use this exclusively for archive transfers of rare live cassette tapes and vinyl. It’s internal mechanics are incredibly quiet and high end. Tascam doesn’t always get it right, but they nailed a winner with this one.

Best portable stereo recorder I've ever encountered in this price range
The integrated microphone is excellent for many purposes, with XLR inputs for professional situations. Good controls that are well laid out, easy to adjust. Writes extremely high quality 24-bit digital files with a low noise profile. Highly recommended this powerful little unit.

Decent Recording Quality
I bought this as a back-up recorder to my Roland R-26, which I absolutely love, but after reading the specs on this, decided to give it a whirl. I can't speak to the durability of the product as I haven't had it very long, but comparing the sound recording to the Roland R-26, I would say it is comparable but not remarkably quieter, which sort of surprised me for all the new technology it claims. I see one reviewer had a problem and a poor response from Tascam, so that just inspired me to get an extended warranty through Square Trade, something I would have probably done any way because you just never know about electronics. If something goes wrong, there's no way to diagnose it and no way to service it yourself, so best to cover yourself in that regard. So far, here is my list of pros and cons.PROSDecent signal to noise ratioFantastic display, makes monitoring easy. I especially love that it reads out the ambient and source noise in numbers, so you can see exactly where the noise and signal levels are. That's a fantastic tool and helps you make sure you have 18 dB separation between them.Solid buildFairly intuitive menu system and easy to navigateSwitches and controls logically placed for the most part.CONSSome of the interface is not clear. For instance, to increase the headphone volume, you have to go to I/O Settings/ Output Att and turn off Ear Protection, which is the default. For external microphone input, that is under MIC, not EXT. MIC. External microphone input is only for mini jack inputs.Battery life is terrible, especially if running phantom power, so you'll need to get external power for this. When battery runs low, instead of shutting off, it just disables the unit so you can't record. That's kind of annoying to me. I'd wish it just shut off, not say I'm dying and then be of no use any way.The pre-amps in this aren't all they are cracked up to be, still needs a pre-amp to get the best s/n ratio (same as with any of the other recorders in this class). But again, compared to the $2,250 for a Sound Devices 702, it's a bargain solution.I'm not sure about how this unit will hold up over time, so I'd get an extended warranty to cover your bets. I haven't been that impressed with Tascam products in the past, but I have to say I am very impressed with this unit.If you are looking to record high quality audio, I'd say this is a decent recorder to get. Time will tell how it holds up. And perhaps firmware updates will reduce some of the interface confusion.Another solution is to run your mic through a pre-amp and use the phantom power from that unit versus relying on this unit for power. It is a battery killer, that's for sure.

Avoid all Tascam products, poor after service
I bought this recorder on July 2018 from Amazon (Sold by: Amazon Export Sales LLC).2 months ago I found that the MIC IN (XLR connector) has problem: The Left MIC IN has a unusual noise floor if compare with the Right, and the leveling of the Left MIC IN is weaker than the Right for approximately 10dB less. Also when the phantom power is on (be it 24V or 48V) for mics that required phantom power, an internal noise is presented from the Left channel.I don't want to produce one more electronic waste to the earth, even I have to pay 1/3 of the purchase cost for repair. Submitted a servicing request from on Tascam.com, and they direct me to contact TAP Electronics, a repair service for Tascam and some other Japan manufacturers.I sent the device to Tap Electronics on 15 Feb 2019, they sent me back on 28 Feb. I received it today, tested it carefully... and found that the above mentioned problem is still there, TAP Electronics charged me US$70 and do nothing.I should have trusted some of the reviews over the online stores and forums, said the QC of this recorder is bad, but I learnt the lesson now, I will avoid any products from Tascam, and all brands which are outsourcing the repair services to Tap Electronics. Check their website if you want to know that brands they're responsible for.I love this recorder so much, the function and the sound quality is top notched, but not for the QC and after services.
