Does this work with the Apple magnetic cases with out a plate?

No this version does not. A new adapter is being released in 30 days to be compatible.

Any update on the MagSafe version ?

Will this mount hold an iPhone 12 with its internal magnets, or do you still need to stick a magnet on the case or phone?

Currently this mount will not work with the internal magnets of MagSafe magnets so you would need to attach a metal plate on phone. However, an adapter is being released soon to work with all Apple MagSafe products.

Does this work if I have a case with credit card insert (with cards in it) on back ?

You will need a piece of magnetic metal for this to work as it uses magnets. Mob Armor has several choices to help you use this product.
