I picked this up to get my older optical headset (Astro A50 Gen 1) working with my Xbox Series X, and overall it did exactly what I needed. First off, I was surprised by how compact it is—much smaller than I expected. Despite the size, the build quality feels solid and premium. The all-metal casing is a nice touch and gives it a durable feel. Setup wasn’t completely plug-and-play. It took a bit of fiddling to get the digital handshake working properly, but once everything synced up, it worked reliably without further issues. Most importantly, it solved my problem. I was able to use my older optical headset without needing to replace it, which saved me a decent amount of money.

I was very disappointed with this product, sadly this product is rubbish and doesn't work unless you set the source (HDMI in) to a PCM 2 Channel Stereo source. Basically I needed it to take in a HDMI source containing either (Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos) as an Audio Mode and convert that to PCM (2 Channel Stereo) out the 3.5mm Socket and not tell the source device to just supply the PCM Stereo Audio to this product. What this product does is tell the Media Box (HDMI Source) what Audio Mode to output over its HDMI which then gets sent into this product where it then just extracts the Audio and sends that over the required output sockets. They are very misleading when they say it converts the audio, giving the impression that it converts it to another Audio Mode when it only converts the actual medium it uses, like SPDIF or converts it to analogue for the 3.5mm socket. Like if you input a HDMI that has an Audio of say Dolby Digital 5.1, it will not convert that to a PCM 2 channel Stereo output, which is why you hear that loud clicking. So if you wanted a box that actually converts a HDMI source with an Audio Mode (like Dolby Digital etc) to say PCM 2 Channel Stereo analogue out via the 3.5mm Socket look elsewhere due to this will not do that. Due to this and all the misleading I give this product a 1 star rating.

It works perfectly to extract audio from PS5 to optical output for my logitec z906 surround sound system as before; it was going through the TV's optical output and kept losing sound. This issue has been resolved due to this product, although when I went to watch Disney Plus on my PS5 i noticed it won't support 5.1, as on my pc, it does, and i think maybe it is the box itself that is not supported but its fine as long as my games are in surround sound. Both my pc and PS5 are using a z906 5.1 system, so not sure why it's not working with Disney Plus on the PS5 too

Bought an ‘Xbox X’ for my son for Christmas to replace his old ‘Xbox one.’ I didn’t realise on the new Xbox X there is no optical out!!! I had my hdmi going to the projector for video and optical out to the amp for 5.1 surround sound. He had to play games with no sound :( I asked my son to look on Google and see if there was a solution to the problem. Amazon came up first (my preferred choice for shopping) and this little Orei splitter. After watching the video I decided to just buy it. Wow!!!! So easy to use, basically plug and play!! The hdmi cable goes in one side from the Xbox X to the Orei and then the other side optical out to the amp and hdmi for video to the projector with such ease. I tried a Blu-ray Disc in and the amp triggered by the 5.1 DTS surround signal from the Orei box made my day :). Everyone was happy, the sound is perfect!! If you need a Video/Audio splitter then I highly recommend this little Orei box of tricks!! 10/10

Optical output has a timing issue when linked up to my TV and NowTV (resulting in micro pauses / pops in the audio)... had to use the analogue output in the end which works perfectly, however, that forces the OREI's DAC to be used, not my amp's own high-end one, which means I'm foregoing some audio quality. From my research it seems this is a combination of the NowTV being a bit fickle, but this audio extractor is also not advanced enough to handle it. I understand a more premium audio extractor would likely not having this timing issue on the optical output. So all in all, it's a case of "get what you pay for".

Finally one that works. Third time lucky , sound and picture holds up and delivers with this connecting my fire cube with my xgmi 4k projector. Excellent & stable connection

The reason I bought this is because the ASTRO HDMI ADAPTER FOR PLAYSTATION 5 does NOT support 2K/1440P @ 120Hz. But this 4K Audio Extractor by OREI, does in fact support 2K/1440P @ 120Hz. Would recommend. It does not seem to support VRR on the PS5. (If that is something you care about). The "J-Tech Digital 4K 60HZ HDMI Audio Extractor" does support 2K/1440P @ 120Hz & VRR though. FYI. But the J-Tech does not come with a UK Plug. It's USA/North America Plug.

He probado varios y este es el mas estable y facil. Ya solo cogerlo pesa el doble que otros de 20-30€. Admite HDR ya q veo comentarios de que no. Merece la pena pillar este respecto a otros de menos precio ya que les salen rayas en la imagen o apagones esporadicos.

I hate HDMI. This digital format is supposed to make our life easier but in reality it just protects movie and music distributors for copyrights. The problem is that often newer HDMI versions are not totally backward compatible. About 10 years ago I purchased a top of the line Panasonic 65" HD Plasma TV, one of the last plasma TV. Still today this TV is giving extraordinary color images and nice contrast ratio. I had also purchased, about 5 years earlier, a top of the line Denon receiver that had HDMI support ; but its HDMI was not compatible with the newer Panasonic TV HDMI ports; I resorted to use the TV as the HDMI switcher and all worked well until this year when I changed my HD Apple TV to a newer 4K Apple TV. Now the movies were not playing in Dolby 5.1 but only in the inferior Dolby Pro Logic II format. No matter what I tried, I could not have the movies play Dolby 5.1. But my Denon is capable of even higher formats such as Dolby TrueHD, EX and most flavors of DTS surround. This is why I had to buy this Orei extractor that enabled at least Dolby HD AC3 to play 5.1 true channels on my Denon. It does not provide the best Dolby Digital format that my Denon can decode but at least, until I change my receiver and TV, I will get a good enough quality out of my Apple TV 4K. The Orei extractor just worked perfectly out of the box. This extractor is very small but housed in a metal box and it feels solid. Good value for the money. Hoping it will last a few years.

If you’ve got a console or device you want to hook up to a monitor without speakers, this is exactly what you need. Simple, affordable, and it just works. Highly recommended.
