Great little device
Purchased this to go with my Creative Soundblaster G8 so i can get the audio out from Xbox series x to my wired headphones. Works a treat.

Quality product - HDA-912
Lots of these to choose from, from random manufactures so decided to go with a brand that hasn't let me down from previous purchases. Compact metal case and worked fine with no noticeable delay in the audio to the video.

Only works for me when I source set to 2 channel Stereo PCM
I was very disappointed with this product, sadly this product is rubbish and doesn't work unless you set the source (HDMI in) to a PCM 2 Channel Stereo source. Basically I needed it to take in a HDMI source containing either (Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos) as an Audio Mode and convert that to PCM (2 Channel Stereo) out the 3.5mm Socket and not tell the source device to just supply the PCM Stereo Audio to this product. What this product does is tell the Media Box (HDMI Source) what Audio Mode to output over its HDMI which then gets sent into this product where it then just extracts the Audio and sends that over the required output sockets. They are very misleading when they say it converts the audio, giving the impression that it converts it to another Audio Mode when it only converts the actual medium it uses, like SPDIF or converts it to analogue for the 3.5mm socket. Like if you input a HDMI that has an Audio of say Dolby Digital 5.1, it will not convert that to a PCM 2 channel Stereo output, which is why you hear that loud clicking. So if you wanted a box that actually converts a HDMI source with an Audio Mode (like Dolby Digital etc) to say PCM 2 Channel Stereo analogue out via the 3.5mm Socket look elsewhere due to this will not do that. Due to this and all the misleading I give this product a 1 star rating.

Bought because the headphone socket on my monitor was unreliable
This device works fine - I plugged it into my Blu-Ray/DVD player and to my monitor. Sometimes I get snow on the screen when changing from a DVD menu to the film, but I can fix that by unplugging the power to tge device then reconnecting it. I made the mistake of thinking that I could just plug my headphones into it, but quickly discovered that it was too loud - you need something with a volume control, so I'll plug my speakers into it, then my headphones into the speakers. Based on research on the Internet, I had thought this might come with a US power supply, but it actually came with a UK plug, so I did not need an adapter.

Great if compatible.
This is a fabulous little item. It did not work with my particular set up, so I returned it. However, I firstly checked it was not faulty, & tried it on my friends Tv. It worked perfectly. It was not compatible with my sky soundbox.

Works OK but with a couple of considerations.
Optical output has a timing issue when linked up to my TV and NowTV (resulting in micro pauses / pops in the audio)... had to use the analogue output in the end which works perfectly, however, that forces the OREI's DAC to be used, not my amp's own high-end one, which means I'm foregoing some audio quality. From my research it seems this is a combination of the NowTV being a bit fickle, but this audio extractor is also not advanced enough to handle it. I understand a more premium audio extractor would likely not having this timing issue on the optical output. So all in all, it's a case of "get what you pay for".

A life saver!!!
Bought an ‘Xbox X’ for my son for Christmas to replace his old ‘Xbox one.’ I didn’t realise on the new Xbox X there is no optical out!!! I had my hdmi going to the projector for video and optical out to the amp for 5.1 surround sound. He had to play games with no sound :( I asked my son to look on Google and see if there was a solution to the problem. Amazon came up first (my preferred choice for shopping) and this little Orei splitter. After watching the video I decided to just buy it. Wow!!!! So easy to use, basically plug and play!! The hdmi cable goes in one side from the Xbox X to the Orei and then the other side optical out to the amp and hdmi for video to the projector with such ease. I tried a Blu-ray Disc in and the amp triggered by the 5.1 DTS surround signal from the Orei box made my day :). Everyone was happy, the sound is perfect!! If you need a Video/Audio splitter then I highly recommend this little Orei box of tricks!! 10/10

Excellent PCM stereo d/a converter
Excellent stereo d/a converter. Connected to Sony UBP-X700B 4K blu-ray player and ancient Quad 66/606 amplifier. Worked perfectly straight out of the box using coaxial cable - not supplied, but I have plenty of old cables knocking around so no problems there. It comes with an optical digital cable but not something I need at present. As the technical specs clearly state it does not convert anything to or from surround sound - just PCM stereo, so avoid this model if you have a surround setup. Update 5/2/26 - really good customer service from this seller and over a problem entirely of my own making. Can't recommend them highly enough!

Ik heb het product gebruikt voor een Apple TV om het geluid naar actief analoge boxen te krijgen. Het geluid is goed, en het product ondersteund SEC HDMI in combinatie met TV. Ik raad dit product aan.

My BenQ display lacks ARC/eARC and optical out, so I paired it with the OREI HDMI Audio Extractor for my Sony HT-S20R. Setup was straightforward, and it delivers clean audio output with full support for PCM/Bitstream over HDMI. No sync issues, no quality loss. Solid build and reliable performance—perfect fix for non-ARC displays. Pros: Easy setup, clean audio, supports PCM/Bitstream, solid build Minor drawbacks: • Requires external power supply • Relatively higher price.

Works well. Put Firestick into it and fed soundbar using the 10m optical output. Now my Epson projector setup has much better sound than using 3mm jack to powered speakers

I had a problem that I think a lot of people run into — my son wanted to use his PS5 with a monitor that didn’t have built-in speakers. We quickly realised that while the picture looked great, we couldn’t hear a thing. After some research, I learned we needed an HDMI splitter with audio output, and after spending about an hour comparing different models, I settled on this one. The price was fair and the reviews looked promising. When it arrived, setup was simple but you do need to be aware of one thing: you’ll need an extra HDMI cable. The HDMI cable that normally goes from the PS5 to the monitor instead goes into this box, and then you’ll need a second HDMI cable to run from the box to the monitor. For audio, just plug a pair of speakers into the 3.5mm jack, and you’re good to go. Once connected, it worked perfectly. The sound came through instantly, there was no lag, and the picture quality stayed the same. I tucked the box away behind the desk, and now my son has a proper gaming station with both video and sound. It’s been running without any issues and feels like a neat, permanent solution. If you’ve got a console or device you want to hook up to a monitor without speakers, this is exactly what you need. Simple, affordable, and it just works. Highly recommended.
