Wish I would have found years ago!
I have a 9 year old who is very energetic and struggles with math and numbers. We started this book a week ago, I am already seeing improvement and she doesn’t resist when it’s time to work! I let her hoverboard around the house while we verbally do her lessons, occasionally using objects (whatever is around, sometimes food or coins) to show a concept. She catches on quickly and doesn’t get bored. I also change the names in the questions so that she can visualize them better, for example, if it says Susie has 5 dollars, I will change it to her sisters name has five dollars, and she catches on much quicker. Absolutely love it!

I love these books
I love these books. I already have done a lot of verbal math with my kids just as we go about normal life (like car rides). Verbal math is fantastic for younger kids who don't really write yet. My 6 year old has shown a natural aptitude for math since age 3, but writing can be frustrating for little ones, so enter verbal math! This is a great guide so I don't have to think of all the questions, myself, and I love having it on my kindle app!

Mental math series of books
This is the second edition of the book. A few changes were made but mostly it is still the great idea of doing math as fun. It works particularly well for children who are hesitant to do worksheets. The word problems in this book accomplish several things: 1. remove worksheet drudgery, 2. make math a game, 3. develop analytical thinking rather than memorization. This type of approach to math is sorely needed and should be part of every child's math education. Because children do not learn analytic way of thinking about math early, when more advanced concepts are introduced such as proportions and fractions, most kids develop a fear and dislike of math. - Authors.

Great Math Exercises Especially Word Problems
My Son and I have added Verbal Math to our Math curriculum. He has improved his calculating abilities and has learned strategies to make calculations easier. The best part is the word questions. The question how can I ever use this is answered with each one. Math IS connected to everything. The lessons are a little long for a 7 year old that is also doing two other programs in a sitting, so I split them in half. A good way to review a lesson is to divide and conquer! You can take this book with you anywhere and it also teaches that math exists outside of a piece of paper. This is a great book and method, well worth pursuing.

Very good
My dd really enjoyed the verbal math lessons. They arent too much, they keep the child active so she's not sitting doing boring arithmetic (she's 5 right now), and its not time consuming for me (i have other little ones and a home to mind). furthermore, her brother who's two now can participate on the sidelines. Definitely makes math fun. Get it and use it:)i gave it a four star because hundred percent it woulda been better if i had a hard copy but thats a no can for now:)

Such a Wonderful Find!
First let me say that I LOVE this book. I have a 6 year old with Aspergers and it's difficult to get him to do things he does not want to do. He actually really loves math but doing worksheets is not his favorite thing. We home school and this book has been so great for us. It's more interactive and it feels like fun instead of work. I'm so glad to have found this book.

This is a great math resource!
The brevity of the lessons holds the children's interest. It really has them thinking in their head. I originally bought this as a supplement for my 8 year old daughter, who struggles with math. She loves it, my other 3 kids like it as well--including my 10 year old so I have just ordered level 2 for him. The kids ASK to do this book.

made sense
it totally made sense to me when I read the book and realized that maths should be fun and spontaneous for little kids before they even begin on maths work sheets.

Verbal maths
Good book to build child’s confidence. My child is 4 and working On counting forward and backwards and simple adding Using the step by step questions in Each section. It is not a fast based book but works on your child’s ability. I use every day items including food and toys to reinforce her learning and understanding which is working. I have been on the same page for a few weeks which is good as I am going at my child’s pace and she is improving and count up and backwards up to 30 unaided.I recommend the book as long as your willing to put the time and be patient with your child’s progress.

Excellent for helping struggling children
Recommended this book to help my 7 year old who just does not get it. Have done about 10 minutes each day and it seems to have helped her enormously. Not saying that she is enjoying this process, she isn't! Finds it boring, so tough bananas. If your child is struggling with maths you could do a lot worse than this book.

Ok but dull.
Bought this bd abuse I used the reading one for my daughter and it was great. This is a little bit boring and we did end up giving up with it. I can see how it would work just doing a bit a day though.
