Yes, this wall mount needs to be screwed

Q: how much weight can this hold?

I keep my cable modem on it. Not much room for anything else. I'd guess that 10 pounds would be beyond a safe limit. In my way of thinking, which leans toward the safe side, if you have to ask about the weight it would support, your intended may not be a safe one.

Q: Is mocha dark brown or medium brown?

It’s a medium color but they are small.

Q: How far apart are the mounting brackets?

They aren’t attached to the shelf so you can position them as far or as close as you want
