SuperHandy Portable Capstan Winch, Portable Rope Winch, 2000 lb Pull

Five stars for two main reasons: 1. The winch performs exactly as advertised. 2. The company fully stands behind their product. I use this capstan winch to pull firewood logs onto our quad trails, where they’re transported using a log arch to a staging/cutting area. The unlimited reach of a capstan style winch allows me to access logs much farther off-trail than standard winches can usually do. At the landing, it's been a game-changer for moving, staging, and positioning logs for cutting (as shown in the video). Almost a year into ownership I did have a problem and contacted the company. They were responsive and took care of me. The winch had developed a slow leak of gear oil. It was still operational but it clearly would be a problem if not addressed. The company speculated that there may have been too much gear oil added at the time of manufacture. Regardless… they replaced the unit and I am happy to have it ready for the next firewood season. I liked it so much I bought a second unit for my 80-year-old dad to use on his property. A great way to add a some extra muscle to any number of pulling tasks.

I have used this to attach my climbing saddle to go up a tree, used it to pull a trailblazer, and used it to pull over a tree being removed. The only problem with this product in my opinion is I can't seem to find a place to buy a spare battery for it.

I had high expectations and this winch definitely met them. I didn't want to write a review until it had proven itself (or not). I used it to haul a pretty big black tail deer up a steep hillside through some rough terrain and debris, and that while it was raining decently most of the time. It worked great! The included anchor strap isn't really sized for west coast trees/stumps, but substituting a tow strap or some tubular webbing solves that limitation. I also already had a longer static rope that I used rather than the one that came with the winch, but the one that comes with it looks very usable. I bought a spare battery, and I would highly recommend having at least one if not two extra batteries for pulling longer total distances. This thing is going with me on every hunting trip from now on! Highly recommended!

I was looking for a way to pull my jet ski onto the beach when I came across the SuperHandy Electric Portable Winch. What a great buy. Easy to use, plenty of power, and quality construction. I'm still amazed at the power the battery delivers to the capstan. I highly recommend it. As recommended, be sure to wear gloves when hauling in case the rope slips to save your hands from being injured.

Loved the ease of use and flexibility in use. Looks to be well made and easily moved a 700 pound tree we needed to plant in a place I couldn’t get a backhoe. The only negative is the battery life seemed shorter than expected. But we just charged it up and ready to go again

I couldn't be more pleased! I didn't really have any logs to drag around right now so I tested it on my mower. Works perfectly! No complaints. Actually, on my first video take, I forgot to take the parking brake off. The winch dragged it up there anyway 🤣. Plenty of power and any number of uses!

My use case is directional felling of 10-16” pines. In most cases this winch was adequate; it probably always would be if I set it up on every tree before cutting. However, if I judge the lean wrong and the tree settles back the wrong way, this does not always have the power to tip it into the right direction (even in one case with a 4x leverage pulley setup). Also, when the winch auto shuts off (under too much load), the capstan rotates in reverse and the guide block instantly tears the rope jacket.

Very helpful tool! Make sure charged before pulling so you don't run out of battery mid-pull. Also, always tend the rope or can wind on itself necessitating cutting the line to free it. Dangerous under tension!. Use a block and tackle to multiply pulling force of the winch. Be careful out there!

I've been using the winch to clear branches/trees from a river to allow canoeing, I have a 3.2t Tirfor type cable winch as well but most of the time this is much quicker and more convenient and can be carried in a rucksack. It seems to be made well enough, battery life is OK for me as I am working locally. BTW, although the battery is only 2Ah the high voltage means that is holds more energy than a typical 2Ah drill battery. A few notes/tips on use. It gets hot on long pulls, it is best to pull for a short period and then allow to cool, slow and steady wins the race. Unless you are pulling really light stuff make sure you have 4 turns of rope around the capstan. It helps to pull the turns together on the underside of the capstan when adding the 4th turn as there is only just enough space. The extra turn ensures far more grip. When using it without a pulley learn the loggers hitch, it is a super simple way to attach the rope to a log, very quick and easy to undo, extra loops can be added if you need more grip, see Google. For heavier loads a pulley is really worth it, I bought a 4T snatch block pulley and use that along with an endless strop and shackle to attach to the load. You put the rope through the pulley and attach to an anchor point, that can be with the winch or another anchor if you want to pull it in a alightly different direction. The pully doubles the capacity of the winch and even though it takes twice as long to pull the load it can even be worth it for lighter loads as the current is halved which should reduce the losses in the motor by 4. Battery life goes up and heating goes down.

Excellent product. Used for pulling our moose out of the pond. Works great with a single battery although I suggest buying a spare battery like I did. Another good point vs gas powered winches, no gas near venison. Also used to move fallen trees, worked great as well.

All'atto dell'acquisto ero dubbioso dell'oggetto. Devo ammettere che semplicemente eccezionale! Io lo utilizzo per trascinare tronchi di legno nel bosco. E' molto versatile nell'utilizzo. Le sue 1000 libbre di trascinamento sono soddisfacenti per li scopo cui l'ho destinato. Riguardo la batteria avrei pensato che avrebbe avuto scarsa durata. Ammetto di aver sbagliato il giudizio. Posso affermare che questo paranco assolve appieno le prestazioni descritte dal venditore.
