excellent reading with a focus on the historyand excellent perspectives. in the end you feel the loss of this institution, yet hope that finances will be allowed to further keep it from falling victim to lack of structural upkeep.from the Civil War through the latter part of the 20th century, it's walls tell a story as well told through this book.

Love this little book and it laid a nice groundwork before actually visiting the State Pen....which is fabulous tour by the way. Interesting book and tour both. Highly recommend.

This book is not a comprehensive prison history. The book is easy to read and covers the whole gamut of the history of the prison and its personalities that worked or lived in the walls. whets the appetite for more related reading.

I read about this book in our daily newspaper. We live about 25 miles from Jefferson City and I have always been curious about the old prison. It was a good read.

The book was great. I've been through it twice. My son and I have been on 2 paranormal tours and going on our 3rd in October.
