I am running mac os catalina. if i reformat the drive, will it erase the cache that’s built into the drive?

Reformatting this external SSD will not do anything to its cache. In any case, the cache is used only during read/write operations, you can’t directly address it as a user and don’t have to think about it at all. You can reformat in APFS for best Mac performance or use any other scheme you need, including multiple partitions each formatted differently.

Will this ssd work as a external hard drive for ps5

Yes, you should be able to use this as an external drive for the PS5 and get full speed on it as long as you plug it into one of the USB 3.2 ports. However, you will still not be able to play PS5 games off of it. You can play PS4 games off of it with improved load times. Per Daniel Bastian's answer regarding the Xbox Series X. You can use the T7 on Series X, but you will not get the full speed. Series X uses USB 3.1 gen 1 ports, which are slower than this SSD. For Series X, you would be better off buying the T5 SSD.

Yes. You might need to Google how to use an external drive, but the read/write speeds on this are exceptional (1GB/s), and the USB-C to USB-C cable it comes with is top-notch (as is the USB-C to USB-A cable). Obviously, you're going to want to be vary careful not to move the cables when in-use.

Super fast

I use this as an external SSD to edit my videos using Final Cut Pro with. It's not as fast as the internal SSD on my Macbook, but it's fast enough not to get the spinning beach ball at any point.

I purchased this external drive after having problems with other brands of drives . It is perfect for using with a laptop computer; especially when travelling. Good SSD but Amazon service let it down

Amazon cocked up and sent a 1TB SSD instead of the 2TB SSD ordered. The price for the replacement then went up by £8.64. Hardly seems like a fair deal.
