Pearl Gon Bops Alex Acuna Special Edition Cajon with Gig Bag

After watching hours of cajon videos, seeing and hearing Alex Acuna play his Special Edition cajon was the clincher. This is a beautiful, masterfully hand-crafted musical instrument which should last a few lifetimes; it's almost too beautiful to sit on and hit! The sound is rich and full, with a clear and resonant bass tone that is not boomy at all. The tapa is very responsive and the snare wires are just right, straight out of the box. A truly wonderful cajon.The shipment was super (super!) fast - and "free". The Gon Bops cajon was packaged inside its case (nothing remarkable; it's just a case) which was inside a box, inside a larger box. There was no way this was getting damaged in transit. However, my beautiful cajon arrived with a few small flaws and some actual damage (see pictures). For the premium price, I expected an absolutely flawless instrument. Instead, I received what is obviously a returned purchase or factory second. Not a deal breaker but I just wanted to share my experience with potential buyers. I wish sellers and Amazon would be more honest about how they do business. If you're selling a used or returned item, SAY SO.

I chose this model after having tried numerous styles at Guitar Center, having bought a couple used from Craigslist and having played the one at our church. This one is the identical model to the church one and plays and sounds exactly the same... Deep and rich bass note and crisp clear treble notes, with a range in between. Responsive to a good whap or a delicate finger roll. Fit and finish are like a fine car. Beautiful shine you can see your face in. Sound hole is smaller than some models, even though this is a full sized instrument. Comes in a very nice padded case or gig bag. The case itself is very poorly designed. The handles are on the sides instead of the front, so when you set it down you have to rotate (roll) it 90 degrees in order to open the bag. Then it has one zippered slot but instead of opening a nice wide pocket is opens a little five inch wide pocket that isn't good for much more than putting your driver's license in! Certainly not large enough to stash sheet music or lyrics or any kind of hand instruments like clakers or finger shots.

Loving my cajon. The sound is amazing, especially the bass. The placement of the snare wires gives a clean snare-less bass sound while still providing a sharp snap when playing the top corners. The quality of the finish is superb and it matches perfectly with my furniture.I definitely recommend this cajon.

Un très bel instrument qui sonne vraiment très bien. Après trois utilisations pas si intensives que ça, es pieds en caoutchouc ne tiennent pas et s'affaissent. Vu le prix onéreux de l'objet on aurait été en droit d'espérer une meilleure qualité !
