When placing the cake into the cake safe, do you have to insert the dowel throughout the cake itself? If so, is it messy to remove?

Hello! Thank you for the question. The Center Rod is inserted through the cake and its cake boards. The rod creates a small 3/8” hole at the top of the Cake that is easily covered with fondant, buttercream, or a topper. There is no squishing of tiers or giant hole to worry about. The rod then easily twists out of the cake when you deliver at the venue. All of our CakeSafes come with a detailed instructions sheet that explains every step of assembly, delivery, and disassembly! I would like to replace the center dowel to support it at the event. is the center hole size large enough to replace a support dowel?

Hello! The hole that the rod creates is 3/8 of an inch in diameter. That should fit most standard size poly dowels!

Do you need a special cake drum?

Hi! Thanks for the great question. You don't need a special cake drum per say. If the drum is made of cardboard or styrofoam, is 1/2 an inch thick or thinner, and can be pierced with a knife, the center rod will pierce through it with no problem. If the drum is made of wood, MDF, or hard plastic, is thicker than 1/2 inch, and cannot be pierced with a knife, you must drill a 2 inch hole in the center for the rod to pass through.

Can a cake be stored in the fridge on the carrier for days without the cake suffering to get dry?

Hello! Thanks for the question. You can store your cake inside of the CakeSafe and refrigerate the whole unit overnight as long as the CakeSafe fits in your refrigerator! It can stay for a few days in the CakeSafe with no problem.
