Q: What is the diameter of the opening of the vial? I have some pearls, the largest of which is 6 mm in diameter, that I want to display in the vial.

The opening of the vial is flush with the inner diameter, which I measure to be 9.5mm (3/8"). A 6mm pearl will definitely fit.

Q: Is the bail big enough to fit a chain through?

Yes. Not sure how thin it would have to be. I used a round leather cord. But you would have to take the clasp off one end of the chain and then thread it through and re attach the clasp.

Q: Are the metal end caps screw on or do I glue it? What glue works best?

The metal caps do screw on I have not used glue But I believe any 1600 glue would work fine
