What diameter are the vertical rods?

The total diameter of the two vertical rods is 2 3/8". A standard roll of paper towels fits very easily around these two vertical rods, leaving room for the roll of paper towels to freely rotate 360 degrees around these two vertical rods.

Why are reviews saying this had a wood base? The photo shows it’s all metal. Makes me not want to buy this...seems shady.
