A fantastic insight into Roman life.
This book gives children (and adults!) the chance to step back in time to Ancient Rome and look inside the lives of a whole cast of characters from the time. There is a double page spread for each one and included is a gladiator, a teacher, a slave, a scribe, a mosaic maker, an emperor, an army officer and lots more.We loved sharing this book together. My 7 year old daughter has been learning about the Romans at school this year so this book reinforced a lot of what she had learnt in a fun and interesting way. Each character's life is told as a story of their life which makes it very readable but at the same time it is so insightful and full of interesting facts. The Physician says 'Sometimes I recommend egg yolks or boiled liver for painful eyes, and rhubarb for stomach pains. I once used dirty wool from a sheep to treat a woman with diseased skin, and a know a doctor who says eating mice whole is good for toothache.'At the end of the book is a map of the Empire, a timeline, Roman numerals and a page to help learn some basic Latin phrases. The book is brilliantly illustrated throughout with vibrant colourful pictures. This is the perfect book for anyone wanting to learn about the Roman Empire in a fun and engaging way. A fantastic way of learning about the past and quite different from other history books.

Bastardised history
This is not a true depiction of The Roman era and it’s history, it is the bastardisation of it.The writer of this book is using it to spread political propaganda, do not fall for this nonsense

Misleading
Content okay, but could be misleading for children.

Blackwashing
Having a black male on the cover instead of a Roman one is clearly an attempt at political subversion of history.

Inaccurate
Politicised and inaccurate
