Very accurate for calibrating ovens.

This thermometer works so great. I love it.

Required calibration, but it is very easy to adjust with the nut under the dial. This thermometer does not instantly read the temperature, but does appear to be accurate once it does reach the temperature of whatever it is placed in. I moved it from a 55 degree room to the 100 degree incubator, and it took several minutes to display accurately. I bought two of these to use in a chicken egg incubator. I calibrated them in an ice water bath, then a boiling water bath. I only gave four stars because one of the two could not be calibrated precisely after several attempts of switching from the ice bath to the boiling bath. I finally calibrated it for the temperature range I was using in the incubator (95-105 degrees F.) by comparing it to the other thermometer that I was able to calibrate via the baths.

Do not return these before you calibrate them. They are not broke. You need to turn the hex head behind the gauge to reflect either ice water or boiling water.

Original product was not calibrated correctly. A replacement product was promptly sent without hesitation. The two new pocket thermometers are accurate as compared to several digital devices and manual devices that I own. Good job Amazon and Taylor.

Considering how often these get mangled by mistake in garbage disposal, a nice cheap, functional food therm is preferable. I've worked decades in kitchens and this works just fine (battery instant read are a waste of money IMO). For those of you new to these thermometers, make sure you calibrate in cup of crushed ice water when new and periodically after. Use covered cup like a foam coffee cup - let it sit for a minute stirring occasionally - while holding dial head, turn hex nut with pliers so dial reads 32 degrees F. My order was correct and on time.

How many reasons would you like for why you should not buy this product? Most importantly the temperature is inaccurate. I used a working thermometer, and this one, in hot water and the first measurement was 50° off. When I made the water a bit deeper it was 20° off, the closest it got to being the same as the working thermometer was 10° off. Before I even did the temperature test I knew I wanted to return it because the dial is so tiny it's very difficult to read. When I put in for my return Amazon responded by telling me I didn't even need to return it, which I really appreciated. Then I thought maybe somebody with Better Eyes could read it so I tested it and found the above results. I thought the hole through the case was an interesting feature, but when I went to try that the thermometer did not even fit through the hole! So the only thing left to discuss is the packaging which was terrible! It was extremely difficult to get the thermometer off the cardboard. Taylor thermometers have lost my trust! Didn't expect too much for the price. The gauge read about 8 deg high at 32F out of the box. After calibrating at 32F (freezing water), checked 212F (boiling water), and gauge read 7 deg low. Room temp seems to measure 1-2 deg low. So plan on accounting for some error based on how you calibrated it. Also, not sure about "instant read". Took about 45s to reach a steady reading at the boiling end, and about 75s at freezing. Maybe the reading is "instant" but the probe just takes that long to get there? Seems like misleading advertising.

Cooked my chicken until it ended up dry as the Griswolds christmas turkey and the thing still never made it above 140° gonna return it. It's my $11 😆
