This stainless steel coffee pot is perfect for my camping and home needs. It is well made of heavy weight stainless. The glass dome is thick glass and removable for cleaning. The basket is solid stainless as well. It is hard to find a pot that comes with that. The pot is small enough to keep in my camp supply box. Just made my 1st pot of coffee in it. Tasted great and was hot! The brew strength depends on how long you perk it. I purchased the 8 cup size. I balked at the price to begin with. Looked at these years ago. There were so many complaints about the quality of the lid and construction that I decided to wait. Perfect for a campfire, propane or gas stove. When used on a wood fire just coat the outside with liquid dish soap and the black will wash right off. It arrived real quick after my order was placed and was well packed. This little pot will remain in my house when I’m not out camping for daily use. Keep your Kurege! This is coffee done right.

Purchased the largest sized pot (36 cup) as I wanted one to brew coffee for a group of campers in a single batch. So far testing this, all my expectations and needs have been met. I wanted to do a review to share firsthand what I found on the quality of the unit and also its capacity, as I know the product information provided isn’t entirely clear on exactly what they define as a “cup”. The pot is well constructed, very sturdy but pleasantly a lighter weight than I expected it to be. The handle feels a little uncomfortable, especially when it has a good amount of water in it, and it’s not insulated so a glove or potholder will still be necessary. This is a rather minor nitpick and not much of a bother. Also, the bail wire on it isn’t just a nice feature, it is a necessity—with water in it, it is difficult to move or pour with just one hand, but that is expected given the volume it can hold. One really great surprise was the percolator basket. Unlike ones from other camp coffee pots, this one feels more solid and not likely to bend unless you really worked hard at doing so. Also, unlike others, where the basket is loose and wobbles around or you have to reach inside to pull it out, the basket here fits flush and secure on the top lip of the pot. Now, onto the capacity. Recommendations on the packaging are to keep the water below the percolator basket. I filled it with 24 X 8oz cups (196oz), or 1.5 gallons of water. This reached to about ½ inch below the bottom of the basket. I then ran it with just water to test and was able to get it to percolate and it did not come out the spout, although I didn’t test the “oops, I had it way too high and on too long and forgot to keep an eye on it” scenario. I brewed 1 gallon of coffee in it and it did that comfortably and I think at that level there would be no chances of spillage by over boiling. One final note on the capacity, I did attempt brew a smaller batch in this (4 X 8oz and then 8 X 8oz) and it would not percolate enough with so little water in it. So, if you might need to brew smaller batches sometimes, better have a smaller pot handy.

There are disadvantages to this kind of product for home use (though it is perfect for the outdoors). First, you don’t want to get coffee grounds down your sink, so it is difficult to clean. Perhaps you can use a sink stopper. Second, a lot of the water boils away by the time it finishes percolating. So don’t expect a lot of coffee. Third, the grounds break up and it looks like dust is in your coffee. This will bother some people, but not others. I have not tried grinding my own whole bean coffee, which will result in larger pieces and somewhat mitigate this problem. Having said all that, if you want an American company making stainless steel, durable coffee pots that are easy to dry out and don’t get moldy like a lot of the ones I have had, this is for you. Just take out the parts and dry them after use. Reminds me of the old-time coffee pots my grandfather had.

Works best on a strong gas burner to get to a quick ~10min boil. I feel perc time could be reduced if they had used a wider tube. Solid construction. Bottom edges are ridged so it does not sit flat on glass electric stoves. Electric and wood stoves take over 20 min to boil. Add at least 10min of perc time for moderate coffee strength. I used course ground coffee from a hand crank grinder. Need to fill with at least 30oz of water else the boil won't reach the top of the perc-ing tube. On a strong burner stove you'll need to handle the initial pours with pot holders. It would be 5 stars if not for the long heating times required on most stoves.

I've used mine for 3 weeks now and continue to be impressed by the quality of the coffee. I will never go back to a standard drip machine. The coffee is not bitter whatsoever, but is actually smooth and, believe it or not, creamy. Love it! This pot isn't as large as you would believe a 14 cup maker to be, but it isn't small either. I have found that it brews with a minimum of 4 cups of water, and since I am the only coffee drinker in my household, I make larger batches and leave the coffee in the pot on the stove to drink over the next couple of days. The quality doesn't decrease and the coffee tastes just the same on the 3rd day as the 1st. It is a heavy duty pot and heats quickly. My glass perc knob on the top has not broken, as I have heeded the advice of other users by tightening it only until it grabs, which means it is just a tad loose. This has allowed for the expansion and I've had no trouble with it cracking either. Beware that the coffee is extremely hot when brewed, however, a spectacular feature is that the handle ALWAYS stays cool. The hinged lid is a little bit annoying when trying to wash out the inside, and this is the only slightly negative feedback I can give. Overall, I love it and would not hesitate to buy it again.

We ordered about 6 models and this one won. Unlike a lot of other coffee pots that are made of thinner metal or have manufacturing defects, this one is well built and will stand the test of time. Makes the cost worth it to me. Others we looked at had lids with flimsy clasps or handles that looked like they might melt or fail. The bottom of this is heavy and the 2 handle set up makes it very convenient. We bought this to replace a 20 year old enamel pot we had for camping. We didn’t need this as a percolator and bought it for boiling water for our camping needs and it does the trick. And I won’t worry about it getting damaged when being shoved in with all our other cooking supplies. The percolator directions on the product are wrong however. We had to try it a few times to get it right - you have to let it run for 15-20 minutes or longer if it’s cold out or windy on a camp stove. It says not to let the percolation go for more then 3-4 minutes and that’s never how fast percolating goes - it’s 3-4 minutes past when it’s fully darkened in the view glass. It ends up percolating with coffee bubbling in the view for about 10 minutes indoors. I suggest not freaking out when you don’t get it right the first time. Have extra course grind coffee with you to figure it out. It takes a bit - even YouTube videos for indoor percolator coffee say 10-15 minutes. I gave it 4 stars because it isn’t the easiest use of the pot [for us] because we prefer pour over coffee, but if I rated it for camping use and not coffee - I’d give it 5 stars across the board.

The design is the best I saw out there. No plastic or wood. Conical shape to heat efficiently. Can be used indoor or camping. Brew to desired strength. I bought mine in used/very good condition. Had no box and missing the wire hanger but otherwise perfect and clearly never used. Not bad for half off! I'M A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED IT DOESN'T MAKE THE BLURP BLURP NOISE WHEN PERKING! TERRIBLE LOL. 8 cup is a nice size for 2 people. Visually a bit bigger than expecting which is good. I didn't want it to be too tiny. Im using a paper filter (punching a hole in it myself for now, prepunched on its way)cause I dont like cleaning so much and just a few grounds slip out when lifting. Nice to have for when SHTF or camping.

I've experienced two other percolating coffee pots which always used to boil over into the flame no matter what. This however is simply brilliant. No overflow, no aluminum and no fuss. I highly recommend.

Love this when away camping....it works better on a campfire than it does on my hob at home but I only really need it when away for the morning coffee fix.
