PERFECTION! You can do it too IF you follow this advice
First: I've been doing faux finishes for over 30 years, but I needed to do this project in a rush, so I decided to try this kit instead of hand-picking my own paints, colors, tools, etc. In the past I have used other kits, as well. Second: I got NOTHING for this review. No freebies, no discounts. So trust me when I tell you that this is the best kit I've ever seen. The product quality is top notch and it's FAR less expensive than if I acquired my own materials. Additionally, the instructions are excellent. If you follow them, you'll get very good results. But if you add one more step, you'll get excellent ones. You see, faux finishes need at least one base color, and an additional 3 colors. However, in my opinion they're more realistic if there are 4-5 colors. The picture showing how it looks following instructions reveals a good paint job. However, it's not fully plausible. For one thing, the light colored paint reduces the realism. However, if you mix the remaining paint from two darker colors (to your taste) you can get a paler chocolate. Go over the project again with the paler chocolate, applying less than the others. THEN look for any patterns and go back over the project, applying the original chocolate or touches of black where needed, in order to break up patterns. A couple other tips: 1. Avoid smearing the paint, as their example picture on the cover of the box shows they did. Granite doesn't have smears. If you DO get a smear, blot other colors over the smear to conceal it. 2. In the FIRST final gloss stage, remove the painter's tape BEFORE the hour is up. I removed it about 45 minutes in. Then tape it off AGAIN before the second coat of gloss. 3. Be aware that if you're taping over very old paint, you may need to fix that later.

This is so easy to use and looks great! I used this on our countertops at church and people thought they were new countertops. Some people have ordered to do their's at home.

Thrilled with my countertop!!!
Amazing product. I had a marred blue/white laminate countertop that was less than attractive. Since it is in a room that is rarely used, I did not want to spend a lot of money on a new countertop. I decided to try the Giani Granite kit. Due to the size of the countertop, I ordered two kits. I used all of 2c in kit 1 and had to open 2c in kit 2. Same as with the acrylic. I had more than enough of the other products. It was easy to use. I really didn't care for the sponge provided, too blotchy for me, so I used a natural sponge I had with larger cells that did not absorb the mineral product as much. I am beyond happy with the results. It was a challenge due to the large area when I had to apply the acrylic. The company is not kidding when they say move fast and do not over roll it. It will change the texture which will be obvious with light reflection. Giani's customer service was wonderful! I called, a nice young lady ANSWERED THE PHONE, I asked my question, she explained her answer and that was that. Under a minute. No press 1 for English, phone queue, elevator music or robot...a real, live breathing, human being! I would highly recommend this product and make sure you have plenty of time and move FAST!

Scratches
I have used this product on different countertops and table top. Very easy to use as long as your patient and follow the directions. Always turns out beautiful. However, even after the topcoat has been applied and hardened, the surfaces are scratched extremely easy. Usually hard to see the scratches until the sun hits it and then you’re like oh my Goodness where did all that come from? Best advice I can give is do not drag anything on that counter and keep placemats down to put other things on

Definitely Worth It!
I absolutely LOVE the Giana countertop paint kits! I have used them three times. The first time was on my Formica countertops (about 15 years ago in my previous home), and the next two times were on my fireplace hearth in my current home. When I moved into my current house, the fireplace hearth was an old 70's stone and was hideous. I first used the gray tones kit, and had that for about 7 years. I recently updated to warmer tones and used the sand tones kit over the top. I love how easy it is to apply, and it's actually quite durable. It is scratchable if you put something heavy on it and drag it (my fireplace scratched when a big log was pulled across the hearth, but for normal everyday use, there was no scratching. Keep the extra paint for touch-ups if needed. For both the counter tops and fireplace hearth I reapplied the top coat once per year. This kit is absolutely perfect for an updated look on a budget. The kit comes with everything you need, brushes included, which is so nice!
