Q: Will they get any rust or get loose like other tongs?

I haven't had them long enough to know about rust! I put them in my dishwasher and they are dry when I take them out! They are very tight tongs! The best I ever bought!

Q: Do the black tips come off or is it a solid piece?

Not sure they are designed that way but I bought them because the answers here said they were solid. The tips came off the smallest set after the third use. I wouldn’t be surprised if the larger sizes do the same eventually. I was disappointed given the other reviews.

Q: Will these turn thin floppy items like frying bacon easily or are is the silicone coating too thick?

They have worked well with bacon at least two times a week as long as I have owned them. I even have used them to flip flour tortillas with little bunching of the tortilla. They are not as thin as the cheap metal tongs, but are a lot sturdier and work with heavier food items. For fresh pressed corn tortillas they did not work well, but a spatula is the correct tool there anyway. I am a big fan of these and do not hesitate to say that they are the best tongs I have ever owned over a 30 year period of cooking - and I expect they are sturdy enough to last the next 30 years so they will remain my best tongs ever.

I have never had a problem with the tongs just popping open. They stay locked until I unlock them.
