Is the 4-Qt size for casseroles than say for a pot roast, soups or chili

You may want to go with the 6 quart size for pot roast ...the 4 quart is more for cooking rice or a vegetable saute.

Does the enamel finish chip?

I've been using mine since January and there are no chips. Along the rim there's a seam where the enamel ends, I was thinking that could be a problem in time, but so far it's been great. It's also a really good looking pan.
