Light, good coverage
I bought this hat for my son for when we are outdoors. It's light, adjustable and provides good shade. I like the smooth brim and material. The hat is more of an oval shape with a bend. This will cause the back of the brim (longer side) to droop down and provide good coverage of the neck.A good safety feature is that one side of the chin strap will break away given enough force. I feel like it's a touch on the light side but has been okay for most days. The brim material makes it such that it will get bent out of shape if folded. You can mostly get rid of it by bending it back or leaving it squished by a heavy, flat object but kids mess up things anyway.I like this hat for him enough that I bought the adult version for myself. It looks a little dorky especially at amusement parks and such, but skin cancer is a leading cause of cancer. So do your kid some good and get him a great hat combined with a non-toxic sunblock. The kid may mess up his skin later on, but at least this is one thing he can't blame me for ruining for him.

Believe the hype! Water resistant to boot!
UPDATE:Kid is 5.5 now, so almost 2.5 years later he still wears this hat almost everytime we spend any significant amount of time outdoors. Which for us, is a ton. The brim is still in great shape, it's held up to SO much. Besides his puddle jumpers, no other worn kid item has got this much use, abuse, love and time from him as this hat. Just buy this for your kid. You won't regret it.So, if you're looking for an all in one sort of hat for the kiddo that covers your bases in wet, dry, windy, and super hot weather, this is your chicken dinner winner. I included the sizing tags it came with as well as the hat itself as a lot of the reviews I read gave conflicting info or seemed confused. I look forward to all our future adventures in this hat and rest assured knowing he's covered! Also, the Khaki color is perfect. Sort of a grayish Khaki color that looks great on anyone.I tried several other kid hats before deciding on this one. We live in FL, it's FREAKING HOT. And WET. We needed a lightweight, waterproof hat that would provide enough coverage without being cumbersome or bad looking either, as looking the part of "dino park ranger" has become very important. I love that there is a loop that goes around the neck, including a release tab up near the top of the left ear which isn't really easy to release but it would if forced. Most kid hats I found had Velcro or didn't have this feature at all. We also love that the head size adjusts! This fits my almost 3 YO perfectly. But can cinch down in windy conditions to help or just generally improve the fit (he likes his a little loose). And the water just rolls off ALL aspects of this hat. Eventually the brim can get soaked, but it's not dripping in his eyes and the brim is flexible yet sturdy so it won't flap in his face like the other kid bucket hats we tried did. If wearing in a car seat/stroller, the brim will flatten down but it is still a little awkward for the wearer. Although I wasn't super happy having to spend nearly double on this hat than most of these kinds of kid hats on Amazon, I would gladly pay it again seeing this thing in action during the breezy, hot and humid, downpours we get here during the FL summer.

Will fit an adult with small head
As of writing this review, I've only wore the hat 4-5 times. I wear a size 21 1/2 inch hat. I am a 62 year old male/small head and of small stature. I've always had trouble finding a hat that fit me and doesn't look to big. I bought the "medium" size after reading a review that stated they wore a 21 1/2 inch hat and ordered the medium and it fit perfect. It fits me "snug", but I like my hats a tick tight fitting and I've yet to have to rely on using the lanyard on a windy day. I'm guessing it will stretch a little bit the more I wear it, as all hats I've had, do especially after sweating in them or they get wet. These will fit an ADULT if you have a smaller head. I didn't pay attention to the ages they fit. It's all about your hat size!!!! So measure your head and order accordingly. It does appear (so far) to be a good quality hat.

Nice wide brim
This hat fits both our kids perfectly, we have a four and a seven year old and they both wear the medium size. The wide brim is perfect for keeping the sun off their neck and upper shoulder area.

BEST SUN HAT ON THE MARKET!
BEST SUN HAT ON THE MARKET! We've had these hats for our four children (ages 6-13) for several years. The brim is very wide and doesn't blow too much in the wind. The khaki and blue hats look very boyish while the pink (or whatever they call it) looks feminine even though they are the exactly the same otherwise. The strap has a latch that comes apart if too much weight is on it so they can't get it caught and then choke. They are not waterproof, but still are helpful on rainy days at day camp (according to my kids). My four kids don't mind wearing these are they are much more comfortable with them than without them. Moreover, virtually every time we are out wearing them another parent asks where we got them. My only caveat is to always buy the large even for a toddler as the smaller ones have smaller brims. We had bought a smaller one once when our third was a toddler, but ended up buying her a large and just tightening it more (she's been wearing the exact same hat for seven summers).

Good for wind, sun, and comfort.
This fits an adult woman if you get size large. I do a lot of outdoor work in sun and high winds and this hat is the best I've found for both shade and wind resistance. It's not perfect but it's better than most. In high winds, the brims of most hats fold back or batter your face. This one tries to fold back but it doesn't succeed very easily. As others have stated, the hat size is adjustable so you can make it snug on your head with both the crown adjuster and with the stampede string. Another big positive about this hat is how very light weight it is. The color is not really khaki, but a pale greenish gray. The price on Amazon is good ($21.75 currently). I got the same hat in a purple-pink color in a camp supply store for $29 + tax. Since it is a kids hat, you might like to know that it seems to clean up well. I got a little motor oil on mine and it came clean with a little warm water and dish soap. I wouldn't put it in a clothes washer, though.

Great Hat for Kids
Fantastic hat for my 8 year old in a size large. With the new stiffer rim compared to previous older model, where the hat rim got flimsy when wet, this hat held up perfectly when playing in water and kept the sun completely off his face.
