Simple, comfortable, and stretchy
I generally wear a size 34 waist in pants, I have muscular thighs and glutes, and my body fat is at about 17%. My legs aren't super huge, though, like some athletes, but I do have trouble finding jeans that fit well on me. I ordered the Large size of these shorts and they fit snug, but they're not overly constricting, and that's how I like them. I had owned a pair of XL champion compression shorts in the past which fit me but were not as tight as I personally like, so I sized down with this order. In terms of quality, for about $12 a pair I think these are a very good value. They're very light weight, soft, with a comfortable waist band and no stitching or tags that feel annoying. They're not thick material, they're really more of an undergarment than a true compression short. But I only needed something that was very stretchable and 100% non restrictive, and these fit the bill for me in that regard. I wear these as bottoms while weight training with nothing else, there's no fly and they don't become see-through when stretched, so I think they're fine when used as an outergarment. I could care less about appearance in the gym, I wanted something that was functional with deep squats and deadlifts, these shorts work perfectly for me.

Tried them all, this is the best choice
Having tried the expensive Mava compression shorts and the slightly cheaper Hanes, the Champion shorts are the best of the bunch and at a very good price. The Mava is a bit too snug, not to mention expensive. The Hanes shorts are a bit too loose. The Champion shorts are the Goldilocks of the bunch: just right! They are snug but not too snug, hold everything in place, wash easily, and are inexpensive. I've since ordered several more. For long runs, these are my go-to compression shorts every time.

Nice support, and great wicking and comfort
I'm a fan. Nice support, and great wicking and comfort. I've used them for both long hikes and short (3 to 5 mile) runs and felt cool and unencumbered. There's absolutely no odor issue. These also retain their shape and fit well after washing. For true "compression" you might need to order a size smaller than normal: at my regular (large) size these are snug if not extraordinarily tight around my thighs, which are fairly thick. That said, I haven't really missed wearing my usual compression sleeves for my hamstrings. My rating would be 4.5 if the choices allowed it. If I find a great bulk price I'll consider going to these exclusively--even for everyday use.

A Life that was Fulfilled
I was stuck in ditch. Not literally, but metaphorically. I had hit rock bottom at about 13 years of age, wearing the least I could of Hanes and Fruit-of-the-Loom boxers on the daily. Everywhere I looked, people surrounding me were have the time of their lives. Of course, the time of their lives was because of their high quality Calvin Klein boxer briefs and Under Armor compression shorts. 2 years had gone by living with the agony and distress of only wearing boxers. I was 15, and thought I should be hitting the weight room soon. I Before I got to the gym my first day, I expected to see others that looked just like me working out. When I got there, my heart deflated. Others were wearing similar athletic shorts, and a cutoff or short sleeve shirt. But I could tell that wasn't it. Just observing the way they walked, they way they talked, how they interacted with others, I could tell without a second thought that each and every one of them were wearing compression shorts. I, of course, was the only one wearing boxers. Things just weren't working out in my teen years. I was 16, and starting to take more control of the decisions I made in life. I had just recently entered my payment method onto my Amazon account, and was buying things such as biographies for history class, accessories for my camera, and other small things. I was at a friends house playing ultimate frisbee. We decided that it would be shirts vs. skins, and my team was skins. I removed my shirt, and let the beautiful beams of sunlight run through my skin. It was a great game of frisbee, until I looked down to see my boxers showing from under my "The Come Sail Aways" shorts by Chubbies. The past 3 years of my life flashed through my head and down my nerves to make ever nook and cranny feel a shiver, and I sprinted a straight for miles back to my own home. I got there, Opened my computer and went straight to the amazon website. I had no idea what I was doing at the time, but I knew it was right. I clicked the search box, paused for a second, closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The words flowed through my fingers like florida sand into the search box: "Compression Shorts". I scrolled through the results clicked on the 'Champion Men's Powerflex Compression Short', and checked out. The old expression, "No guts, no glory", may seem like an old folk song to some, but when you witness something that calls upon a substantial amount of bravery, the four words have an exceeding depth of meaning. Thank you, Amazon, Champion, for allowing me to wear these comfortable undergarments, that have made my life better at an insurmountable profit.

Just tried them on a run and they work perfect at protecting my thighs. However, the band folds over and pinches my waist.
Bought these compression shorts to keep my inner thighs from rubbing together. Just tried them on a run and they work perfect. They fit me along the leg and crouch similar to the pictures shown. But the waist band folds over some because I have a bit of tummy. They were not as snug as some shorts I've seen guys wearing. I was concerned when I first put them on because they didn't ride all the way up. Yet they turned out snug enough to prevent the thigh rubbing. I wore them under my running shorts. They did not get hot or overly wet from sweat. It's 80 degrees here so I do get sweaty but they were not drenched like my tank top. I'm so happy. My thighs used to be raw on any run 5km or longer. I bought three more pair so I won't have to wash frequently. Update 9/16/15 The waist band folds over. This makes the band feel tight and uncomfortable. I'm over weight and that's probably the reason. However, I recently bought a different brand because they were on sale. I purchased the same size. The other brand is more comfortable and the band doesn't fold over pinching my waste. I've lowered the stars to 3. I recommend trying a size larger with these

Best Value Compression Shorts
Fits Good. These are slightly shorter in length than the Under Armour model, but these have been more durable than the UA shorts I have. These are great for running or wearing under board shorts for water sports. I also wear them during hunting season because they wick moisture away for the body so much better than cotton, and dry quicker (which makes them cooler in summer and warmer in winter than typical cotton boxer briefs). These have been the best all-around compression shorts I have found to date.

LOVE these shorts
I LOVE these shorts, they are perfect for preventing thigh rub, can be worn for all activities under layers or just on their own if you're brave or shameless like me! They are a single layer so not too thick and have lots of stretch. I normally wear a large but went with an XL to be safe based on other similar products I've worn and I'm glad I did! Perfect amount of stretch to wear on their own for running and prevent the dreaded thigh rub, not tight or pinchy but comfortable and form fitting. I have some old pairs of under armor that were getting worn and these are the perfect replacement! If you're unsure on sizing and/or have thick thighs go with the larger size.

Good quality for the money, but kinda tight
I'm giving these 4 stars because of the quality vs price. I've been wearing Nike and Under Armor (UA) compression shorts, the same 10 pairs or so as underwear for years (some size medium, some large). Recently, I bought some new UA shorts size LG, and the waist band feels like it is trying to cut off the circulation to my legs. I've put on a little weight... But not THAT much (6ft 220lbs, size 36 waist). So I ordered a pair of the Nike's size LG, they kept the boys a little too snug and the thighs were much tighter than the UA (I have larger than average thighs so I'm used to that with most clothes I buy), but the waist band was a tiny bit better, but still painful after a while. So then I found these champion shorts for more than half the price, so I gave them shot. They feel just as quality, but the waist band was just as tight as the Nike's, but the thighs felt better. I decided to order a pair of the XL just to see if I liked them more... The shorts feel a bit looser, but not by much, I was hoping the waist band would be much looser (now beginning to kill my self confidence after finding the XL still feels too small lol). Today I gave in, swallowed my pride and ordered an XXL hoping that these will finally be the shorts that fit me. Maybe I just prefer them looser than most people, but the LG and XL would leave harsh red rings around my waist after wearing them all day, and I've never had these problems until I started ordering all these new ones... Again, I'm not in the best shape, but I'm not in terrible shape, so I don't see why I would have to order an XXL for someone my size. Anyways, if I were you, I would order 1 to 2 sizes larger than you think you need. Maybe someone here can correct me. Maybe a size 36 waist should be buying an XL or XXL? I don't mind them tight, but not so tight where they leave painful rings around my waist. And I realize they stretch out over time... Which is probably why I could wear a medium with no problem for years. Most days I resort back to wearing one of my pairs that are a few years old just to not deal with such a tight waist band. Hopefully these XXLs will be the right ones until I lose some weight.

I liked the first two pairs so much, I bought another pair!
Excellent shorts. This is my third pair, a black pair, red and black pair and now this grey and black pair. because I liked them so much. They fit exactly as expected and are super comfortable when working out. I'm a fairly big guy (5'9" and 217 Lbs) and these fit and feel how good compression shorts shouldl. The stitching appears strong and the microfiber really helps me stay dry when sweating. I would highly recommend these shorts.

Great under layer for cycling.
Nice soft fabric and just the right amount of compression to feel good wearing them all day long. Beside they are the best to wear as an under layer while cycling, the seams appear to be at the right place to prevent chafing. I usually wear 34-35 and and Large fits perfect. Perfect length too. But that is me with my own shape.. They might fit different on you.
