Glad to see there is no bpa, but is this pfoa-free by any chance?

Thank you for your inquiry. The inner pan has a non-stick coating containing PTFE- a material commonly used for non-stick coating in cookware for conventional kitchen use (FDA approved). Is Gaba brown rice sold in stores or is it regular brown rice that is affected by cooking?

Just Google it so you don't get answers from people who don't know what they're talking about.

GABA brown rice IS sold in stores (usually as sprouted brown rice/germinated brown rice) but in terms of this machine, it does that for you, and it's regular (any) brown rice that's cooked differently so as to increase its gamma-aminobutyric acid benefits 150%.

Per Zojirushi, "GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acid, is said to help lower blood pressure and relieve stress. Using the GABA Brown Rice setting activates the GABA in the brown rice by soaking it for two hours at 104°F before cooking."

Also from Zojirushi:

"This is not a new variety of brown rice, but a newly different way of cooking brown rice to "activate" it and increase natural occurring gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an amino acid in brown rice believed to have health giving properties such as lowering blood pressure, improving kidney function and relieving stress. The brown rice is "activated" by soaking it at 104°F for 2 hours before the actual cooking begins."

There is no dedicated quinoa setting.  What menu to use for making quinoa?

Thank you for your inquiry. In the NL-GAC10, quinoa has been officially tested on the Quick Cooking menu setting. For 1 cup of uncooked quinoa using the measuring cup provided with the unit, we would recommend measuring 1 1/4 cups of water with the same measuring cup. You may need to make adjustments depending on your brand of quinoa and preferred texture. To account for the cooking process, please do not exceed 4 cups of uncooked quinoa.
