**2025 update** The device worked flawlessly for 27 months. However, it no longer works at all as a biometric doorknob. It won't hold a charge, and as such, requires the key to open every time. I've decided to leave it at 5-stars because 27 months of flawless daily use feels acceptable - I don't know how long I really expected it to work. **2023 review** The instructions are mostly easy to follow, the installation was straight-forward, and the print reader reads well every time. I did have to widen the latch in the frame since the knob I was replacing used a slender indoor latch. This knob uses a hefty latch - the same could be said for the whole design, it feels very solid. The process to enable and disable 'normal mode' is a labored but I never really need it, I just wanted to see how it worked. So, if you want a knob that you don't have to keep scanning into, there are easier models. However, if you weren't controlling access, you probably wouldn't need a print reader.

While occasionally it may require two or three attempts, more often than not, it successfully recognizes the fingerprint on the first try. In terms of sturdiness, the lock exhibits a decent level of strength. While it may not feel exceptionally robust to the touch, it is made entirely of metal and is expected to endure long-term use. Interestingly, despite the initial impression of feeling somewhat cheap, after months of consistent usage, I have not encountered any issues or signs of wear and tear. Additionally, the lock demonstrates impressive battery life. Since the initial installation, I have not needed to replace the battery, nor have I received any indications of low battery levels. This endurance is particularly noteworthy considering the frequency of unlocking my door, which occurs approximately 30 times a day. In conclusion, the Foxgard Smart Fingerprint Door Lock is an exceptional access solution that offers a seamless and secure experience. ~Update 2/2024~ This lock has catastrophically failed. The outside handle completely separated from the body, and several internal components popped loose and scattered on the floor. Worse, the state in which it failed left the door easily manipulated to enter. It seems that my earlier reservations around the flimsy feel of the lock were correct. I'd avoid it at this point. ------------------------------------------ In general this lock performs as it should. It does feel quite flimsy, owing to how the internal mechanics are situated. Recently, it feels like something has worn a bit inside and the handle can now move up past the center and reset itself in a higher position. I have to forcefully play with the handle to get it back down to its original position. The fingerprint reader mostly works well, but I use this handle on the door from my garage to my house and often times I have car oil or grease on my hands. If your finger isn't perfectly clean and positioned exactly right, the reader will not open the door. This has been a minor inconvenience, though, as more often than not it functions fine. Not sure if I would buy again just because I'm not loving the cheap feel of all of the play in the handle, but it does what it says it does.

Hello !! This is just so cool because it’s discreet It looks like a normal door handle But that’s before you realize it only opens with a thumbprint !!! (Well it comes with two backup keys ) I installed it in less than 10 minutes You need to provide four AAA batteries of your own that go inside the handle It comes with a mini usb cord The idea is, if the batteries randomly die, there are two options to get into the house Option 1 : use the extra manual key they provided you (I keep mine in my keychain ) Option 2: on the end of the lever is a little USB square opening You would take the cord they provided you (or one of your own ) Plug it in Then the other side the idea is you plug it into an extra battery pack you might have laying around By doing this , you would be able to power the lever to read your finger print and open ~*~*~*~*~ Once you set your finger print up you become the admin Then you can set up a friend or roommate next But the admin needs to be present in order to add any other finger prints to the system It works really well , when you add your finger do it from a few different angles The whole idea is we didn’t want to fumble with keys when we had groceries etc This removed that problem for us One complaint is my boyfriend rode his bike home It was wet and cold When he got to the door he thought he finger was too wet and cold and it wouldn’t recognize (It’s also possible maybe he just forgot which finger or maybe he did it at a weird angle he didn’t record ) Overall we love it

First time buying a fingerprint lock without app... All of my fingerprint locks has the ability to set it up via app.. This one no. I bought it like that, because most of the time I didn't use the app... So I try it, so will be cheaper. Anyway, works perfect, this is one of the faster fingerprint reader that I bought. Really easy to set it up without app. Really easy to install... If you see reviews of people having problems, it's because they don't follow the instructions. Lock and unlocked perfectly as you can see on the video. Great price (without app function cheaper) and great quality. Very happy with my purchase.

***UPDATE#2*** After being refunded, I bought the silver lock version with the app. Within the first 7-10 days I noticed that the fingerprint wouldn't read and no lights were present when my thumb was placed. My phone with the app was in my room so I couldn't control it but good thing I learnt from my previous experience and kept a key outside. When I got in my room and used the app it came to life and worked as it should, for a couple more days until... the issue repeated. I again reached out to customer support and after sending them a short clip of my issue they immediately sent me a replacement. I'm not sure if I just had bad luck or what because I tried two different versions but based on my experience you should definitely keep a key outside if you go with any versions of this product. If you're one of those that is considering buying, i'de say give them a shot, the customer support is just as good as amazons customer support. ***UPDATE*** After reaching out to support they refunded me fully on my order. So for this, I will update my rating based on customer support. ***Previous Review from my first Purchase*** Worked great till I added some WD40. I only added it to the locking mechanism not on the handles. Three days later place finger, it turned green like usual, theres a noise like it unlocks, but when you try to open nada. 1/20 tries it actually does unlock. Sadly i'm ordering another temporarily, but I will definitely be looking for something more trusted.

I was actually very impressed with the physical quality. It was heavier than I expected. Straight forward installation. Not the easiest to program, but not overly difficult. The fingerprint reader is not the greatest. Sometimes it works well. Other times it may take several tries, or not even work at all. Be sure to always have the physical backup key with you just in case. I did program my thumb multiple times, as well as my other thumb and other fingers, so if it doesn't read one, it may read the others. Sometimes rubbing my thumb on oily skin helps it to read better. (I know, it sounds gross, but it does help.) I wish I would have got one that also accepts codes as well as a finger print, just as an additional back up.
