Dog(s) love it!!! One of our dogs, after she got the idea on the FIRST try (not needed to be lifted), just runs right up into the truck! We open it up, the dog goes right up, no prompting at all - and plenty of good traction. The other dog, needs to be told to 'come on up', before he'll go. Yes it gets scratched, but there's no loss of traction for the dogs. They don't need to dig the toenails into groves or ladder-like steps, the sandpaper like finish gives perfect, no slip traction. We opted for the longest ramp to keep the slope angle shallow - that was the right choice! 3 sections makes it pretty compact for a doggie ramp. I cannot imagine having to 'unfold' a ramp this big. It is very strong, sets up FAST, pretty compact, and people at parks are wowed by now easily the dogs climb and descend. Neither of our dogs have every done 'Agility' training, so they'd never, ever, seen a 'ramp' 'tunnel' or poles' before. This was a totally new experience for both dogs (Basset Hound & Swedish Vallhund). Another great thing, it's solid footing & doesn't twist or wobble back n forth like a narrower ramp would. Nor does it suddenly slide together, the thing is designed with a 'lip' like edge, making exiting / entering the ramp smooth & easy for our dogs. Our version is the 3 section one, it just slides apart, and slides back into a decent size package. That process of expanding & collapsing, much easier than I expected. I grab it with two hands, let it slide open & set one end on the edge of the truck's seat. That's all there is to it. To collapse, lift the edge off the seat, and it just slides back to compact, pick it up by the handle on the side, back into the bed of the truck. The ONLY wish it had, a carry handle on BOTH sides. It's got a snap-on-a-strap to keep it from expanding while carrying, only tried it once - because the wife asked, "That's that?" I'd recommend THIS type of dog ramp to anyone.

This is perfect. What else can I say?! I have a 12yo large dog with increasingly poor mobility due to her hip dysplasia and an old ACL injury. I have steps at all four entrances... not many, but even the 3-4 stairs can be hard on her worst days. I had tried a harness and other ways to assist, but those weren't working for us. THIS!!! This is saving her, and my back!! It is heavy. Very solid. Simple to use.. just slide the lower piece out until it's you want it. Again I have five steps at our deck to the backyard, which is where she goes in and out the most. Having the ramp at the top was a little too steep for her so I put it down one step but extended it all the way and that is perfect. I also used it to put her in my Toyota 4Runner to go to the vet. No problem at all!! The non-skid feet on the bottom securely sat on the bumper again extended it all the way out so that she could go up and then slid it together so that I could put it in the back what she was in the seat. Easy easy. It took about a day and a half for her to learn to use it. I would add that the steel rails and non-slip black matte help her see the ramp... (She also has impaired vision with senior dog cataracts which definitely impact her depth perception.) I just can't say enough about this that I know that it will last for longer than she will and is an absolute godsend. On her tired days I do still use a towel under her belly and help her up it, but otherwise she has been super happy to have the ability to go out into her yard and come back in as she pleases. **My old girl is 75 lb lab doberman mix. The ramp barely flexes when she walks up and down it so I'm sure would handle a dog larger. I just wish I'd found this sooner!

We had first ordered one of the ramps that ran about $80 on Amazon that folded up in four sections. Unfortunately, my 48 lb dog was sliding down the ramp on the way down, and I was afraid she'd injure herself on it. The material on the $80 one we ordered looked non-slip (like a rough outdoor-style carpet sort of), but in person, it didn't have any traction on the way down. So I ordered this Petsafe telescoping ramp (which a family member also owns and likes for their dogs) which are twice the size of my dog. They have the medium or larger version, but I ordered the compact one because it takes up less space in the car while not in use. It seems really great so far. There seems to be plenty of traction for my dog. She immediately knew how to use it. Initially, I really wanted one of the ones that folded up in sections because I thought it would take up less space, but actually this compact version will fit the short way in the cargo compartment in the back of your SUV, (my SUV is mid-size to smaller), whereas the "standard" and larger versions of this PetSafe ramp would have had to sit horizontally, meaning they'd always be squashing something if I tried to lay it on top of things, or it would always be buried underneath stuff when I needed it....so I was trying to see if the compact size would work even though it is an inch shorter in width than the standard. The loss of the inch did not seem to matter at all. The first $80 ramp we had ordered was only 63 inches long, and the Petsafe one is 70, which also helps it not to be quite as steep. I could not understand why a lot of reviews were saying that the $80 outdoor carpeted ramp was slippery because in the photos online, those ones don't appear like they would be, and all the videos I watched that people had posted showed dogs having no problem with traction. However, it was immediately apparent that it was an accident waiting to happen because my pup would literally slide and be unable to walk on it on the way down very well. It was a dealbreaker because I don't want her getting injured, especially when we are in a hurry getting in and out of the vehicle. I would also say that if you are seeking a ramp that you plan to just put somewhere and not have to unfold/ fold constantly, then the ones that fold up in sections *could* work for you if you are going to use it as an angle that would not be as steep. If you are on a budget, you can try one of those first. However, if you are going to be using the ramp with your car on a daily or even weekly basis, I would opt for the telescoping PetSafe one because it is MUCH easier and faster to open up and put up on the car. The tri-fold one I tried simply took too long to unfold/ fold, and you have to be careful not to pinch your hands/ fingers, too. You need to be focused on those when you do it, and you generally are going to be annoyed like I was because that is not something you want to do multiple times per day or week. It is really worth it to spring for the telescoping one. The Petsafe telescoping ramp also is much sturdier than the first one we purchased, and my dog could sense it because she went up and down it with confidence, whereas the first one she was unsure of. I also think that the little side rails on the PetSafe one gave her more confidence and security. The only thing I would say is that I wish that it didn't "fall out" so to speak when you are expanding the size of it. So, when you extend the slide, it does slide out rather quickly and easily, rather than having some sort of clicking / stop at each length, so even with this one, you need to be careful not to injure your hands or bystanders, including pets, while "un-telescoping" it. The last thing I will say is that I had hoped this ramp could be used at different lengths. One of the photos in the ad sort of indicated you could use it even at a shorter length without totally expanding it to its fullest possible length. Technically, you could, but since there is not "stop" on it, you would need to be really careful that the remaining section stays put/ doesn't fall out/ extend while your pet is trying to use it as a shorter ramp. Hope that makes sense. Neither ramp I tried is perfect, but the PetSafe one is far better than the other option for the reasons stated. Good luck!

We have two dogs--a 14 year-old, 40 lb shepard/lab mix (Skye) and a 6 year-old, 55 lb golden/springer mix (Duette). About a year ago, Skye began to falter when jumping into the back of our SUV and would hesitate when jumping out. Her eyesight has become constrained, and age has caught up to her strength. So, we started lifting her in and out of the back of the SUV, but that was sometimes a struggle and doing so with a wet, just-in-the-lake dog isn't necessarily fun. So--we began to think about a ramp. Our concern was that it be long enough to create a gentle slope into the vehicle, not be so long that we couldn't store it in the back with dogs, light enough to maneuver, and stout enough not to move or bend as the dogs walked along it. We searched among the solutions and looked in the pet stores, but the length/strength/weight combinations were not satisfactory. Then based on some on-line reviews, we found the Solvit TriScope Ramp. We took the advice of Solvit to carefully introduce the ramp to the dogs inside the house, getting them to walk along the surface while offering treats, and slowly but surely raising the ramp to a tilt to get them feeling safe on the surface. This training took about 6 hours in the house. We left it laying about the house overnight so that they got used to it like a piece of doggy furniture. On its first vehicle use, both dogs walked up the ramp confidently. The younger (Duette) still liked to jump up and down, but we now discourage that so her older "sister" will feel more at home walking on the ramp. Now Skye takes the ramp preferentially, with no prompting. Our assessment is that it has made a huge difference in her world. The tri-telescoping feature is great. It packs compactly with the dogs in the back of the SUV; they don't seem to mind. It is light enough that either my wife or I can easily deploy the ramp and pick it up for storage. It has a snap-tie to keep it from accidentally extending if it's tilted accidentally. The snap tie is a little awkward to pull-out as it gets tucked in when the ramp is closed, but a very, very minor inconvenience and certainly not worth a reduction in "stars". Some reviews have complained about the finely gritted surface of the ramp. Our two dogs have no complaints, and watching our 14 year-old Skye walk down it eases my mind that otherwise she may slip and get scared of the ramp. All-in-all, this ramp perfectly met our criteria, our two dogs love it and now prefer it to trying to jump in/out, and it is compact and very strong/stable. We will recommend this to any of our friends.

Ok. I'll save you all some time here: What all the other reviews have said is true. Let's start with the good: It's really really really sturdy. My 100+ lb shepherd goes up and down without even the slightest bowing. It's remarkably light considering. For us, we need the absolute smallest folding ramp both in length and thickness while at the same time being long enough to be climbable. It excels at that. And now...the not so good......You will feel like at any given moment, you might loose a finger or toe in the process. The stupid plastic safety strap...I give it a month tops. I never am entirely convinced it's going to hold to begin with not to mention it's not that easy to collapse the ramp and get that snapped shut. I'll get to the big problem with the ramp in a sec. Got a few gripes first. Deploying the ramp is as other reviewers have noted, a bit of Russian Roulette. My dog is fairly obedient but he's a dog and dogs don't always stay put. Squirrel. Need I say more? So I've got a nice ramp in one hand a dog in the other. While I've gotten a bit better, watching me try and deploy this thing with one hand while holding my dog probably makes for some good entertainment and a good time to cover the ears of your young ones. It takes an act of God to get the ramp extended as far as it will go while simultaneously positioning it just so so that it doesn't slide and doesn't make ruin of that gorgeous red paint job you paid too much for. The ramp does not lock as you extended it. It depend on the weight to lock it in place. I guess it works. It hasn't collapsed yet. But it would be much easier if the sections locked when fully extended so that you could position the ramp more easily. The ramp doesn't have any safety strap either to keep it from slipping off the bumper or to the side, especially if the ground is slippery. I went to the hardware store and got two high grip rubber stair liners - one for my bumper to grip and protect the paint, and one for the ground to keep the bottom of the ramp secure if the ground is wet. I'm sure you get the picture. But the one thing that absolutely totally completely really SUCKS is that sand paper grip that they put on the ramp. Honestly, you get one chance with this ramp. If your dog has a bad experience with it, good luck in getting him back on it. This grip paper is sharp and I knew better than to even try. Like another reviewer suggested, I got vinyl non-skid shelf liner. It's spongy -- kind of like a really thin yoga mat. The dog didn't mind it and up an down he went....twice. The second time, his nails dug in and tore the mat material to bits. So fine. I accept that. What I don't accept is that not only did the matting material shred, but the sand paper grip under it. It's awful and it's really flimsy. I ended up taking a heat gun and peeling the sand paper grip off and gluing down some industrial rubber lining. It's soft enough that the dog doesn't mind it and grips well enough he doesn't slip. That reviewer that suggested the non-slip liner used tape to pull the liner under the next section. Do your self a favor and just unscrew the rubber stops and lay the sections out flat. The bottom line: I hate it. I love it. It scares me to use it but the dog does use it. The side rails are tall and that helps!. It's stronger than any ramp I've seen and it folds up smaller than any I've seen as well. So....it wins.

I was skeptical, but this is a perfect accessory for my dog's car rides. She is 8yo and 77lbs, so she can't jump and kinda tough to lift. It only took a few tries and luring her up the ramp with some cold cuts, and now she happily runs up this ramp. I was worried that since it has no locking latch, it might not be stable, but it hasn't moved with her or me on it, and it doesn't wobble in the least. I got the compact version, with 3 parts, and it closes down to a nice manageable size and the weight isn't bad. I just shove it under my dog's mat, and off we go.

This ramp is perfect for getting the dogs into their pool. It’s very substantial and stays put.

It is light, fairly wide and easy to use, I don't think you can easily hurt yourself opening/closing it like others (e.g. the WeatherTech folding ramp can pinch your fingers). When placed on the back of the SUV, it is sufficiently stable with reasonable incline even for old large Danes. It is surprisingly strong, more than sufficiently stable to carry my biggest dog's easily (165LB, more than I weigh). It's a well built ramp. There have been comments that the sand paper like surface (100 grit?) is hard on the dog paws. I disagree, our old dogs have no problems. A dogs paws will be ok if the dog walks on the road fairly regularly and climbs the ramp at a normal pace. But in the worst case you can always get a set of booties. Also, the rough surface will not be rough forever. The WeatherTech ramp has a rubber walking surface which is not as useful as one might think (very slippery if dogs paws are wet). Also the WeatherTech is more costly, narrower and bulkier to store (so harder to carry in vehicle which you obviously must do). I do not recommend the WeatherTech at all. Training the dog to use it not to hard if (unlike the instruction booklet author) you use your brain a bit. First step is to get the dog to walk on it when it is flat on the floor. Next, since most houses are at least somewhat elevated from the property, use the ramp as a walkway from say an elevated porch to back yard or similar. Prior to feeding the dog, put the dog outside, setup the ramp so that the dog can not avoid using it to get onto the porch and then put something tasty at the top of the ramp. The hungry dog will realize that it has to walk on the ramp to get the treat and will eventually do so (if there are two dogs then make it appear that the the second dog positioned on the porch might get the treat first). We just left our ramp in place for a day so that the dogs got accustomed to traversing the incline. Once the dog is readily coming on or off the porch, then try putting it on the car. Again use a high value treat. It helps to have two people also. Unless you have an very obedient and trusting dog, you will not likely get the dog to climb the ramp without some preconditioning/training. If you scare the dog on the first trial it may never try again. It may well take more than one day. But our big adolescent male Dane figured out and literally bounds up the ramp :). Finally if you have a really wobbly old dog or one that doesn't walk precisely, this ramp is inexpensive enough that you can use two (at least at the back of an SUV) which definitely helps such dogs. Since they store easily, two is not too bad to carry.

Purchased this ramp for an older greyhound. It is an excellent ramp with anti slip surface and my dog has no problem using it, it has been a life changer for both him and me. The quality of this ramp is fabulous, the only thing against it for me would be it's quite heavy but it's worth it for how good it is.

Recommended by our vet to get a ramp to reduce the risk of joint damage, we bought this after a lot of research, much head scratching and finally a personal glowing recommendation from a friend. We are not disappointed. It is not light ( none of these ramps are) but is still easy enough to carry. Setting up is simplicity itself as is packing away. Access to all parts of the ramp allows stress free cleaning if it ends up muddy....can but dream of a clean retriever! Our dog took to it very quickly, tempted by her favourite treat to go up and come down. The surface is non slip to help with those over excited doggo moments. The ramp sits happily on the car boot surround and doesn’t move. Not cheap but build quality appears good and we think it will be worth every penny if it helps avoid some of the issues that goldies are susceptible to.
