Campaign history
This is a detailed day to day account of the fighting of the Hedgerows in the Bocage. I wanted a book which would give me a) detailed historical eye witness accounts of fighting in the bocage on the grass roots level, b) visual information I could use for a project on reconstructing this aspect of history. This book has done more than this with its wealth of b and w photos past and present of key villages and strongholds as well as detailed maps of the surrounding landscape. It includes accounts for both sides but is obviously more sided with the Allies cos of the availability of eye witness acccounts in regimental histories etc. Nevertheless, a great account and certainly help me in visualising in detail this aspect of military life in the bocage. A definite 9 out of 10.

Very good book
I was interested in this book as my late father fought with the 2nd glosters in the battle for Tilly-sur-Seulles. Gives a good account of the battle from both sides

The book I've waited for.
There are many good books on the tactical and operational fighting for the hedgerows from both the American and German perspectives. Until now there hasn't been one from the British side. This book was well worth the wait. It is full of interviews, after action reports, diary entries, etc. from both sides. It comes complete with a full supporting cast of plentiful photos and maps. Even better the maps are tied to the sequence of events being discussed in the book.I've been reading and collecting books on WW2 for 55 and have a library of over 2000 books. I've waited a long time for this book to be written. Its one drawback, like with most books tracking historical events, it can get somewhat dry at times. Thankfully not for long.If you've been waiting on that one book about the British combat in the early stages of the Battle for Normandy from the lofty Brigade Commander to the private down hugging French soil this book is for you. Thanks for a very well researched and written book on the subject.
