desertcart.com: Learn French with OUINO: New Improved Edition v4 | Lifetime Access (for PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Chromebook) : Software Review: So much fun, fantastic program, amazing customer service all for a great price!!!!!! - Bonjour! We have 10 children and our homeschooling family (6 still homeschooling) LOVES LOVES LOVES Ouino!!!! If you are someone who needs a set track to follow, there is that option. If you like to bop around to vocabulary one day and verb practice the next, you can do that too. Other programs make you go through lesson after lesson to get to what you need. If you already have a decent handle on the language, you can jump ahead. Need to brush up on introductions? One click and you are there. Going to a French restaurant and want to review food vocabulary? Scroll down and you will be ready to order. You can do that with this program. Some other audio programs have vocabulary and you repeat it once and then move on. Unless you listen to the program over and over, it will not stick. Children quickly get bored by this method. We tried out many different kinds of language programs that were available from our local library. Those audio programs did not have the lovely visual to reinforce learning as it is in Ouino. Even the little things add up to enormous ease of learning. For example: everything masculine is written in blue and spoken by a male. Anything feminine is written in red and spoken by a female. Brilliant! We all love the new features from the upgrade. I think my favorite is the cumulative vocabulary review test. Most of my children like to take the tests for the vocabulary over and over until they get the "Awesome!" vocal prompt. By having all the lists together of just the ones you did is such a great review and it really keeps everyone on their toes. The "Random Extra Practice" is wonderful! Having the "streak counter" really makes it all into a game and has been so much fun! The children love it! Ouino is the coveted activity in each day. They have several things they each must do together and also several things they do individually. One daily activity is practice the playing the piano for 20 minutes. If they have completed that, then they are allowed to be on Ouino for 20 minutes. I have to put a time limit because they each would spend all day on Ouino!!! If they finish all of their work for the day, they can go back to "play" on Ouino. Even the 4 year old is randomly speaking French because she likes to sit with me when I complete my lessons. Yes, I am using Ouino along with my children. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for creating such a wonderful product. Thank you for the wonderful customer service. When dealing with another very popular language company, I found the customer service to be nonexistent and frustrating. Not so with Ouino. Tonny and his brother Tim are so helpful, so kind and just lovely to talk to. Any issue you might not understand, they are willing to explain and talk you through. You know that they believe in their product and work hard. I am so pleased to be supporting such a business. When I was in school learning French all we did was conjugate verbs. We never did conversation and so I did not learn to speak French. I have learned more about how to speak French from this product in the few months we have been using it vs. the many years in school I was tortured with verbs. It is so much fun to learn using Ouino! I know many homeschooling families and I have been telling anyone who would listen about this fabulous product!!!!!! Review: Very good for review, could be expanded a bit for beginners - I studied French in high school and and have a passable reading knowledge. I occasionally have to read French articles in my field, biological anthropology (with the help of Google Translate). But my spoken French is a bit rusty and biological terms are not likely to pop up in daily conversation. As I will be traveling to France in Spring I thought some brush-up would help. I have been using OUINO French daily for the past two weeks. It has excellent drills for vocabulary, grammar, etc., and its quizzes are good for practice and review. The setup is pretty straightforward and the examples that they use make sense for a variety of purposes. One plus is that they provide alternate usages for Francophone areas outside of France such as Canada. Another plus, for folks who have trouble keeping track of gender, is that masculine nouns are highlighted in blue with a male speaker and feminine in red with a female speaker. So gender differences are picked up almost subliminally. You can select specific items to work on (essential words, grammar etc.) and work at your own pace. As you work through it it provides examples of more complex statements and concepts. The structure allows you to set up your own drill within a section. For example, in the vocabulary section for--let's say--shopping, you can go though the vocabulary in sequence to familiarize yourself the terms and pronunciation, and then click among the terms that are most difficult. You can then test your knowledge in the user-friendly speed drill quiz that follows, then repeat the lesson or quiz. So from my perspective, it is an excellent system for reviewing French vocabulary, grammar and conversation. I have used a number of other systems for learning Italian. Ouino French is much less labor intensive than RosettaStone (and a lot more economical), and is easier to follow than the Pimsleur systems, although it does not go into the same depth. However: I do not think it is optimized for a beginner or at least for someone who has not studied a foreign language before. Rather than walking one through the process, it lets you pick and choose what to work on (good for review, but not so good for the beginner). On the other hand, OUINO would be an excellent supplement to another beginner system. Hint: I enjoy studying languages and always keep Google Translate ([...]) open. When I encounter a new word in Ouino, I look for alternate terms and usages in Google Translate. I also like to create new sentences with the new vocabulary and check them in Google Translate. So, overall this is an excellent system for review or to supplement a separate course in French.

A GOOD PROGRAM!!!
Overall this is a good program and for the money you can't go wrong. However, that said it is lacking in content. Although they do present about 100 verbs there are still about 25 vital verbs one must know to truly speak just daily conversations and they are not covered in the program. The program itself is beautiful to look at and the story lines are fun and playful. I don't believe this program by itself will teach a true beginner to learn to speak french without lots of other reference. The solution to that is to combine this program with the very best and that is FLUENZ FRENCH. If you are a beginner and truly want to learn how to speak french then Fluenz French is the way to go as it repeat things over and over until you can't help but learn. When the two programs are combined together I truly believe you will be speaking french very well by the time you complete both programs. Ouino has the potential to be a leader in the industry if they add about 25 more verbs and more grammer exercises. There is a new update coming out in a couple of months and I am hoping they add more verbs to the program along with more exercises in general. I do like the fact that the program has optional speed levels which allow the true beginner to fully understand how to say each word correctly and with a good accent. I also like the fact that the background music (if you choose to use it) changes and it not the same for every exercise. All in all it's a good program and I would recommend that you give it a try. Oh and up dates are FREE so don't wait for the new program to come out before you purchase as once the new update comes out you will be able to update your current program with the new added materials.

A multimodal approach that works
I received a USB drive with the installer, and the program is fun and easy to use. I'm using it in conjunction with Pimsleur and a class from The Great Courses. Taken together, the elements serve as a useful primer and review. I studied French for 3 years in high school and 2 years in college. Since then, I've let my skills lapse. But I'm pleased to find that the neural pathways are still there and that it's just a matter of honing them. I researched various language-education softwares and decided to try Ouino. So far, it's good times. I'm using the early lessons as review, and I'm pleased that the program allows you to quiz yourself with various levels of challenge: you can review a lesson and control how many clues the program gives you, all the way up to getting no hints and having to type all the French phrases from memory. And you're under a timer, with the program gauging not only your accuracy but also how quickly you're able to answer. The adaptability of that approach caters to people with different skills sets (including people who aren't sure of their skill).

Good luck trying to get this program Activated!
Two hours trying to install this program. Yes, two full hours! They are so worried that you are going to steal their program. I could have downloaded this for free online. I paid $99 because it is the right thing to do, but all it did was waste my time. It turns out that you are not buying the program you are just buying the right to use it. You only get TWO downloads. At first I was happy because it comes with a flash drive. I thought, great I just plug it in and the program will work as long as the drive is in I am good. Wrong. You have to open an account, download programs, sync your computer and then verify your account. Then enter the activation KEY. Well it goes on and on. To bad it was so easy to use on youtube! Now my Apple Computer is jammed up. Update: Imagine that you are driving in your car and you hear a great song, so you decide to buy it. It would be great to listen to it again in your car, at home or work. Now there many ways to purchase music. Let's just say, you go on amazon.com and order a CD. A few days later you open the mail to find your order. You open your box and there is no CD just a flash drive. If you wanted a song on a flash drive you could have just downloaded it yourself for less. But let us go on, you try to load it on your computer and find that you have to sign or let us say accept a long contract. In the contract it states that you can only use it on two devices and only one at a time. How do you think this would make you feel? Anyway, it turns out that you have to do a bunch of steps and have internet access if you want to install the program. I finally installed ouino and I think I going to like it. I am even thinking of getting the Spanish version. To be fair to ouino I am changing my rating from 1 to 3. I just hope that nothing happens to my computer, because I don't know if I can ever install it again.

My Quino Flashdrive arrived on time and in a beautiful, safe box
I ordered Quino French after reading several reviews. I wanted to learn something new, to keep my brain active. I am 55 and I am a beginner. My Quino Flashdrive arrived on time and in a beautiful, safe box. I installed it on my laptop. I called Quino's Customer Service to find out how to put it on my Ipad. The gentleman instructed me how to do it. His instructions were perfect. My Spanish program is very easy to navigate. The graphics are bright and vibrant. The voices on the program is clear and the language is pronounced in normal and slow speed. I can decide for myself what I want to learn instead of a laid out program. Tonny, the Co-Founder emailed me, to see how I liked the program and to thank me. HOW COOL IS THAT? I'll tell you, Super Cool. Quino don't just take your money and run, like so many companies do. They really care. I am enjoying my program. I also ordered Spanish. So you will see this same review for Spanish, from me. Thank You, Quino (Tonny).

Crashed program
Program crashed on installation, freezing a brand new computer. When the computer was restarted the program couldn't even begin the installation process. Disappointed

Works as a great supplement.
I got my start with French with this program several months ago. First, my gripe: While the program is very visually pleasing and is organized well, it is severely lacking in exercises to drive home the lessons. If you don't mind doing a lot of your work on paper to memorize the words, and fashioning variations in the sentences offered as examples, I suppose it won't be a problem for you, but I desire a lot of variation with little work on my end to hammer home what I'm learning. There are quick quizzes and tests after the lessons, but that is about it. They do not change from one time to the next. What I like about it: It does very well with explanations of the varying pronunciations and rules of conjugations. It is organized in a non-linear fashion, so if on one day, you feel like you just want to learn pronunciation, you can look at the numerous examples of how certain letters sound in words. If you want to learn body parts, weather or verb conjugations, you can jump straight to them. There is also a section which is designed for learning conversations you would come across as a tourist. Because of this, I found that it's a great supplement to other free programs that I've come across where rules are not explained very well. With Ouino by my side, I can use it as a quick, easy, centralized reference to understand the essentials that are not addressed when doing the exercises elsewhere.

it has become my favorite subject! It is fun to do
Ouino French is an incredible program! My siblings have used rosetta stone, but I decided I wanted to try Ouino. Since I tried it, it has become my favorite subject! It is fun to do, even if it is not for school. The program itself is superb and it teaches you how to learn French in a fun and easy way. The program lets you take control of the way you want to learn, and is very efficient. I highly recommend this product, you will NOT be disappointed!

Great customer service. Ongoing updates provided free of charge. Highly recommended.
Great product and the company provides excellent customer service. This version is the original and Ouino has updated it with a downloadable version that works better with the later versions of Windows. The company allowed me to update from this to the new version free of charge. Five years later in 2018 they still provide great updates to the software and content free of charge.

Not bad
Update my last review. The customer service sent me an email regarding offline access to using the software. I was wrong at the beginning. Sorry I didn't know it doesn't need an internet to use the software once I activate it on my computer. I've downloaded it to my cellphone as well. Now I can use it anywhere at anytime to improve my French! Yahoo! Thanks for such nice customer service. You are awesome! --------------------- So far so good. It covers all essential elements of French language. Very friendly to use. I would prefer a downloaded version of the conversations and vocabularies. Then I can listen to it whenever I have no access to Internet.
